Not sure why they ranked Casino Royale higher than numbers 3 and 4, since its RT score was one point lower... as is GoldenEye's over OHMSS... but whatever. I'd mostly agree with this list, though I haven't seen Skyfall. Rotten Tomatoes wrote: 1. Dr. No (1962) - 98%
Featuring plenty of the humor, action, and escapist thrills the series would become known for, Dr. No kicks off the Bond franchise in style.
2. Casino Royale (2006) - 95%
Casino Royale disposes of the silliness and gadgetry that plagued recent James Bond outings, and Daniel Craig delivers what fans and critics have been waiting for: a caustic, haunted, intense reinvention of 007.
3. Goldfinger (1964) - 96%
Goldfinger is where James Bond as we know him comes into focus - it features one of 007's most famous lines ("A martini. Shaken, not stirred") and a wide range of gadgets that would become the series' trademark.
4. From Russia With Love (1963) - 96%
The second James Bond film, From Russia with Love is a razor-sharp, briskly-paced Cold War thriller that features several electrifying action scenes.
5. Skyfall (2012) - 92%
Sam Mendes brings Bond surging back with a smart, sexy, riveting action thriller that qualifies as one of the best 007 films to date.
6. Thunderball (1965) - 85%
Lavishly rendered set pieces and Sean Connery's enduring charm make Thunderball a big, fun adventure, even if it doesn't quite measure up to the series' previous heights.
7. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) - 81%
George Lazenby's only appearance as 007 is a fine entry in the series, featuring one of the most intriguing Bond girls in Tracy di Vincenzo (Diana Rigg), breathtaking visuals, and some great ski chases.
8. GoldenEye (1995) - 82%
The first and best Pierce Brosnan Bond film, GoldenEye brings the series into a more modern context, and the result is a 007 entry that's high-tech, action-packed, and urbane.
9. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) - 78%
Though it hints at the absurdity to come in later installments, The Spy Who Loved Me's sleek style, menacing villains, and sly wit make it the best of the Roger Moore era.
10. The Living Daylights (1987) - 75%
In The Living Daylights, newcomer Timothy Dalton plays James Bond with more debonair seriousness than preceding installments, and the result, is energetic, exciting, and occasionally weighty. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/guides/ja ... countdown/

Here's my list. Each rating group (5 stars - 1 star) is listed in the order they came out, not in order of preference (truth be told - there IS no order of preference for me with Bond films. I'm more than happy to watch any of them at any time). This is basically just how I think they stack up as Bond films.
Goldfinger (*****) Thunderball (*****) The Spy Who Loved Me (*****) For Your Eyes Only (*****) The Living Daylights (*****) Goldeneye (*****) Tomorrow Never Dies (*****) Casino Royale (*****) Skyfall (*****)
From Russia With Love (****) On Her Majesty's Secret Service (****) Octopussy (****) Quantum Of Solace (****)
Dr. No (***) Live And let Die (***) Licence To Kill (***) The World Is Not Enough (***)
You Only Live Twice (**) The Man With The Golden Gun (**) A View To A Kill (**) Die Another Day (**)
Diamonds Are Forever (*) Moonraker (*)

I'd have to see Skyfall again to be sure where I'd rank it. Casino Royale and Goldfinger would be my top two. Doctor No and From Russia With Love would be up there, too.

In the late '70s Steven Spielberg approached Cubby Broccoli about directing a Bond picture.Broccoli turned him down,so Spielberg had to make do with Indiana Jones. Lost opportunity or blessing in disguise?

Blessing in disguise. I've no doubt that a Spielberg-directed Bond would have been (and still could be) hugely entertaining, but he wouldn't have had anywhere near the amount of control over the movie as he did with RAIDERS.

While I'd love to see a Spielberg Bond, there's no doubt it's a huge, HUGE blessing. Indiana Jones works so well as its own thing and as fans, we now get to have 2 awesome franchises instead of just one.
Also, if Spielberg was going to do a 007 flick, it should be a period piece set in the early 60s. Thanks.

Though tempted to go with OHMSS I had to go with Goldfinger because its the archetypical Bond film against which all other entries in the series are measured.

That's why I usually go between that and Dr. No. They both had so many of the classic trappings that people think of when they think James Bond.

It's actually kind of funny to watch them now, because so much of Austin Powers comes through. I think Michael Myers watched everything up through Thunderball for inspiration for Austin Powers.

Through You Only Live Twice. Dr. Evil was clearly based (physically at least) on Donald Pleasance's Blofeld.
