Do you remember when you first bought a DVD player? What was your personal "launch title?" I remember thinking "I'm getting that, and that, and that and that."
I think I came home with Blade Runner and The Matrix. If I recall correctly, getting The Matrix was the final straw that made me break down and buy one. I could be wrong, though. I know for a fact I came home with Blade Runner and the DVD player in the same trip.

Spider-Man.
Since Spider-Man 3 came with the PS3, that was my first BD.

The first DVD I ever watched was Monsters, Inc. My friend Cambry and I were babysitting some kids and the parents had a DVD player. I'd never even seen one before, so I was enthralled. My family got ours a little late in the game (I lived with grandparents, so we were always a few years behind on technology). I think after I got my own DVD player for my room, my first DVDs were probably Wayne's World 1 and 2. The first TV show I bought on DVD was almost certainly Futurama.

My first way to watch DVDs was through getting a new computer that had a DVD drive. Would have been late 2000/early 2001. I rented The Cell, Chicken Run and Galaxy Quest and watched The Cell first. I'm not positive but I think the first DVD I ever bought was Season 1 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
I didn't buy an actual DVD player until around 2003 and it was one of those DVD/VCR combos since I had hundreds and hundreds of hours of wrestling on VHS I didn't want to lose.

Can't remember the actual first DVD I ever bought but the first 2 DVDs I saw where The River Wild and Apollo 13. Saw them presented for the first time to the public at the Home Theater Show held in NYC back in 1997.

The first DVD I watched was The Phantom Menace. I liked the PQ, but it was squished and I didn't like that. It was before I learned what "anamorphic widescreen" meant and how to change settings for 4:3 screens.

"Young Frankenstein." Had just gotten a G3 PowerMac. Wanted to test out the DVD player. Went to SunCoast Video in the mall. Spent about an hour looking through ALL of the titles they had there.
Eventually decided (using a lot of different factors), that Young Frankenstein would be the best choice. Felt really good about the decision.
Got to the car, started driving home, realized: "Ahhg! I just bought a Black and White movie!"
Heh. Wasn't a true test of the new computer system and monitor, but still a great movie.

But, alas, this time you couldn't play them on your Mac.
I like BD a lot, "bag of hurt" or not.

Event Horizon,I know that it's not widely loved but it's one of my favorites.

What's not to like about Event Horizon? Lovecraft in space.

The reason I bought a DVD player. I wanted the Alex Ross art and the storyboards in the extras.

I honestly can't remember. The first VHS movie we bought was Blazing Saddles, followed by movies like Superman and Patton. The first Blu-Ray was probably the last Harry Potter movie inasmuch as it came in a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, or maybe a copy of Sin City. But the first DVD? Weird.

You know I really should remember this and it's bugging me that I don't. I remember the very first VHS my family bought with the VCR back when I was about 4 or 5, but I don't remember the first DVD I bought. I keep wanting to say Spider-Man but I'm pretty sure that was the first one Ian bought and I got a DVD player shortly after that (as we weren't living together yet) and I can't for the life of me think of what I would have bought.

The first DVD I purchased was Yellow Submarine back in 1999. It was also the first LP, first Laserdisc & first Blu-Ray I purchased.
