News is from Pitchfork.

Pitchfork wrote:
The Velvet Underground and Nico's seminal self-titled debut from 1967 will get the deluxe reissue treatment in honor of the record's 45 anniversary. It's out October 1 via Universal, spread across six discs with alternate takes and mixes, live recordings, practice sessions, and more.

The set includes both stereo and mono versions of the album, as well as Nico's 1967 solo debut, Chelsea Girl, and a live show from Columbus, Ohio. It also includes a studio session recorded to acetate in April 1966, and a set of recordings from a January 1966 rehearsal at Andy Warhol's Factory, which include the rare cuts "Miss Joanie Lee" and "Walk Alone".

:D

I am acquainted with the gentleman behind this project. Admittedly for hardcore fans only, but those few will be thrilled.

I hear you Jimbo. Not going to be high sound quality here in my expectation.

This could very easily be split into three separate releases:

--Three-disc anniversary edition of VU&N with Scepter sessions (discs 1, 2, and 4)

--Discs 5 and 6 separately (could be the start of a new VU live series... people have been waiting since the Quine Tapes)

--Remastered Chelsea Girl (I would totally be into this)

Semi off-topic: why are all reissues of 1969 Live split into two separate releases (even the recent vinyl release)?

In a contest between high sound quality and historical importance, history ALWAYS wins.

Agree with Plasquatch. Discs 4, 5 and 6 could have been a separate "Bootleg Series" release (funny how that stopped after the Quine Tapes). I don't know if I want to buy the album a fourth time, and Chelsea Girl for the second (after selling that CD over 20 years ago).

I'll be all over this when it comes out.....this is in my top 10 of greatest albums ever. I don't care about the sound quality.....it's supposed to be dirty....would sound phony/different if cleaned up. I think this will be my 7th copy....and I already have most all except the concert. (The Specter sessions were a bootleg album/CD called Unripened....very interesting and some of these alternates sound very different / different takes).

I hope this comtinutes.....I'd love to see what they could do with 6 disc versions of White Light/White Heat and the s/t 3rd album (regular mix + closet mix etc.)

Looks like a book is included too?

The packaging looks like it's going to be lousy (from the look of that disc 6 in the upper right of that photo)

I'm still in when the price drops a bit.

I miss the days when BMG Club would have eventually marked this down from $98 to $25!

It came in the mail yesterday.......looks great!!!!

It's an 86 page hardcover album-sized book with essays and lots of pictures. (The CD housing sucks....I already moved them to jewel cases....no scratches getting them out).

I'm going to start listening tomorrow......the 1 review so far on Amazon says this has never sounded better....similar to an MFSL that was out awhile back (don't have it). I'm still not expecting miracles....it's supposed to sound bad 8-) .

I hope this exact same setup will be done with White Light/White Heat and the 3rd album.

Apparently there are two other versions of this. I can't find them at Amazon (imports, maybe?), but I saw them at Best Buy.

One is just a straight issue of the remastered album, no bonuses.

The other is a "deluxe edition" (again!) which includes discs one (stereo album and alternates) and four (acetate and Factory rehearsals).

Also, the Scepter acetate is being released on vinyl for (Record Store Day Presents) Black Friday.

Just as an aside, discogs.com lists 83 different versions of this album.

I'm listening to the new stereo version now (disc 1)...I love it....it's the best it ever sounded without crossing over into sounding too clean (a complaint with some on the last Ramones remasters).

If this is one of your alltime favorite albums, treat yourself to it.

ImportCDs has the decent price mentioned above, and were e-mailing a 10% off coupon on top of that.

If anyone still wanted this, there's some for sale at $34.43......click on Used in 3rd Party Sellers......these are listed as Amazon Warehouse Deals - like new,

Some people over at Hoffman have been ordering them, and they're apparently new/sealed.

I just can't imagine 6 discs of variations of this album. I do like it, but that's way too much!
