I'm surprised that after a year and a half of wrangling with Ritchie Blackmore & several cancelled release dates to bring the "Down to Earth" & "Rainbow Rising" sets to the market, that Universal Music would attempt any further Rainbow expanded 2-CD editions. If past experience is any indicator, I would expect the "Long Live Rock n' Roll" set to arrive in spring or summer of 2012....if it arrives at all.

Or-you could enjoy what came out and expect that this will arrive near the expected date and not expect the worst and stop saying things like "if it ever arrives at all" which is what you said about the last two that did arrive after all. I understand frustration with delays, but sheesh...

But considering how little unreleased material that there was(some alternate mixes for "Rising" and two alternate lyric versions and a bunch of backing tracks for "Down to Earth") there was little to warrant Ritchie Blackmore or his management agonising over whether to permit these releases. It's a chance to generate some artist & publishing royalties for Blackmore, something he should welcome. The final released 2-CD sets ended up not differing at all from what Universal originally proposed. I said what I said so that fans won't be surprised if it takes a year and a half to make the next Rainbow reissues happen. The only Rainbow album sessions that generated a significant amount of unreleased SONGS(as opposed to mixes) was "Bent Out of Shape"

I would rather have had some good live material as bonus items. Although the Dio years are well documented with some good live CD's and DVD's. The Bonnet era would have been great with live material.

Finally! After many problems withe getting members to sign off, these are on the way in November. Both will be 2 CD Deluxe Editons but tracklistings have not been announced as of yet.
It was nice to look back at some good 'ol fashioned negative, paranoid Phil Cohen comments as well!

I hope these are worth buying. Rising I bought, even though the bonus material was not that great, and Down to Earth was great all round.

I've been told the bonus material will be so-so much like the last 2, but I don't mind. This is one of my Top 10 bands so I'm happy that these are coming out at all and the sound and packaging will be excellent.
They will not be doing the debut sadly due to a lack of any bonus material. The Turner-era albums may be handled next year or may not. I sure hope so.

To say the least horribly lackluster in bonus cuts, but this is what I was told. I'm a Rainbow fanatic so I'll get 'em and the sound and packaging will be great, but 3 extra versions of "Long Live Rock N' Roll" seems a bit overkill and as for the On Stage bonus cuts-no "Stargazer"??? C'mon! It's virtually the same track listing as the orignal album!

I bought the Rainbow CDs with Dio for the first time a few years back. I got the remastered versions and these deluxes give me no reason to want to upgrade.

I'll wait for more info. Just the track names doesn't tell me much. Are these alternate versions, live cuts, demos or weird mixes like that Cozy drum thing on "Down To Earth"?

I'll still get them since I'm a RAINBOW fanatic but where is the Donington DVD or even better Blu ray?

And they really ought to do the Turner era albums - those have WAY better bonus materials than the quasi barrel scraping sometimes repetitive stuff we are getting with the Dio period.

But we still have no idea what the bonus material's description is...live, version 6, take 21 with no drums, take 61 with Ritchie singing...

Bump:
Cover art now added. As for the bonus tracks-it's obviously alternate takes, mixes, instrumental versions etc.-no mystery there.

I'm a big Rainbow fan, actually played soccer with Blackmore back in 1984, but after wasting money on Rising and Down to Earth, my 2 favorites along with Straight Bewteen the Eyes, these are just not worth the purchase. I'm hoping the JLT era has better bonus material if/when they come out.

Thanks for the update.

ImportCDs has these "on sale" now as a preorder for $24.51 each (+ shipping). Not sure if that is cheaper than amazon UK or not (haven't done the math yet)....

I was pretty underwhelmed by the bonus material on the Rising 2CD deluxe. But I still might get these if Andy Pearce does the mastering because I'm a big fan of his work. The recent Dio remasters he did were just OK, but the Sabbath discs that he has done rank among the best remastering jobs I've heard.

Pretty cool actually-looks like Japan 1976 bonus cuts for On Stage and I'm very pleased the Don Kirschner versions of the LLRNR tracks are included-these are from the music videos and are different.
Plus, we have the 1977 versions which are from the srcapped album sessions I believe. It's enough for me even if it's not thrilling. The previous ones were the same so I'm in for these and will hope the price comes down. I'm getting them regardless.
