From superdeluxeediton.com:

Rhino will release Chicago: The Studio Albums ’69-’78, a new ten-disc box set, on 29 October. Like the forthcoming Joni Mitchell set (with an almost identical time-span) this will come in the form of a clamshell box with the CDs housed in the familiar card sleeve mini-jackets.

The ten albums included are listed below and all are reported to be the 2002 expanded versions with the exception of Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago III (this is not confirmed).

GERMANY Pre-order: The Studio Albums 1969-1978
UK Pre-order: The Studio Albums 1969-1978 (coming soon)
USA Pre-order: The Studio Albums 1969-1978 (coming soon)

Albums in the box:
1.Chicago Transit Authority
2.Chicago
3.Chicago III
4.Chicago V
5.Chicago VI
6.Chicago VII
7.Chicago VIII
8.Chicago X
9.Chicago XI
10.Hot Streets

I have everything but this looks like a nice collection for anyone who doesn't. I personally very much like the sound of all the Rhino remasters (I'm sure some don't) as well as the presentation.
I'm curious if Rhino does a better job with the mini-sleeves than the shit job Sony/Legacy does with theirs.
Seems Rhino has nothing else to do now but rehash.

I want to second what Pete wrote. I have all the remasters through Chicago 17 and was very happy with the sound and liner notes compared to the original CD pressings. I have no need for this new box set, but if I didn't already own everything I would definitely pick this up.

So they're using 10 year-old editions?

why would they remaster them AGAIN?
i think the Rhino remasters are quite excellent.
you can only make it sound -so- good,
and certainly not better than the source tapes.
for the record, the 6-disc boxed anthology and Chicago-XI are superb sounding.

I agree-no need at all to remaster them again-they were done right. It's just Rhino rehashing past product but a very good deal for anyone who doesn't have them and again I'm curious what the mini-sleeves are like.

I basically agree that the Rhino reissues were fine but ... well, there is that DVD Audio version of Chicago II that supposedly blows away all previous incarnations (and now sells at collector's prices on Amazon.) If they could truly improve the sound quality of this on a regular CD, I'd considering re-buying at least that title again.

Then this comment seems weird to me...

They should ALL be the 2002 versions, then.

i find it odd that they added "hot streets" , the only post-terry kath album in the lot.

Many of the original LPs included posters and other inserts. I wonder if they'll be reproduced in miniature.

Was it the first greatest hits album (Chicago IX) that came with an iron-on patch?

Yep, it was VIII. I wore that patch on a cross-country trip with my parents the year that album came out.

Well, I did finally pick this up for a good price. I'm in the camp that likes the sound of the Rhino remasters for the most part...

It should be noted that they used the first remaster of Chicago VII that had the false start/studio chatter missing from the start of "Happy Man". This was corrected on a secret re-remaster (along with some improved index points), which I already own.

Are the CTA and Chicago III discs the 2002 remasters, or different, as suggested above? If they're different, what do they sound like?

The DVD-As of Chicago (II) and V were remixed, and sound great, but those remixes haven't shown up anywhere else.

And to confuse matters even more, MFSL still has CTA and II on their list of upcoming releases (but sadly not VI).

All the discs in this box are the 2002 remasters as they were originally released. No remixes, no newer remasters.

I like the DVD-A remixes but they were SLAM mastered like the CD remasters...and they took some liberties on the stereo remixes that I don't like.

Did they ever correct the missing "one, two" intro to "Ain't It Blue?" on VIII?
