Amazon.com.uk lists five new Steve Miller Band reissues - the first five releases from the band: Children of the Future, Sailor, Brave New World, Your Saving Grace & Number 5. No release date or price is listed, although interestingly enough the discs are identified as Deluxe Editions. Edsel is listed as the record company. Nothing about this reissue series has appeared on the Edsel website yet.

Edsel did an excellent job on the post Fly Like An Eagle albums. It would be great to see Edsel follow through a uniform series of Steve Miller reissues, even as imports. There are still the "lost" albums to deal with (Rock Steady, Journey from Eden (?)) and reissues of "Living In The 20th Century" and "Born 2 Be Blue (?)" . The story is always out there about Steve Miller blocking certain reissues, but his entire catalog is available on iTunes, so at some level he must be OK with the music being in circulation.

Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

July 30th will be the release date in the UK. I've added links to the first post, but as PES noted, these aren't orderable yet.

Wow, will look forward to these. I have the original Capitol CD issues which I believe were remastered by Larry Walsh and they were good for their day. But with that said, if these Edsel's are remastered I'm in for these!

Like Boz Scaggs' self-titled 60s debut, those releases don't exist. At least you can still find some vinyl copies of the Steve Miller albums. Good luck finding the Boz Scaggs in any form or fashion.

COTF & Sailor interest me. They are the only 2 SMB studio albums I've ever liked. Would be interested in a sonic upgrade &/or bonus trax.

I'll be surprised if any of them are remastered.

All the recent Edsel titles have been remastered (including the Doobie Brothers two-fers) with very nice expanded booklets which include all the lyrics, original album art, new images and new liner notes. Several Steve Miller Band titles were issued last year (Book of Dreams, Circle of Love, Abracadabra, Live, X-Rays, Wide River). Apparently, they didn't issue The Joker, Living in the 20th Century or B2BB due to rights issues. Too bad if that's the case. I'm really looking forward to the early catalog titles...

These all have info now-new liner notes, remastering, packaging (digipaks), but looks like only one has a bonus track.

Wondering why the Edsel and Amazon UK pages refer to these as "reissues", and I don't see the word "remaster" anywhere? Would love to know for sure before I order.

I received word today from Amazon.com.uk that the discs have been shipped. We'll find out what's what in a week - 10 days.

DanO -

I'm not sure what you saw on Amazon UK, but as of this morning these were all listed as 'original recordings remastered' under the format tag.

Got notice over the weekend that mine have shipped as well - really looking forward to these five - my favorites of his...

I also have the Japanese minis from a few years back (Summer of Love series) and even though they didn't say remastered anywhere, they sounded better than the original Capitol CDs. I'll do an A/B when I get these and let you know the results....

Listening to the new 'Children of The Future' now. Sounds horrible. Compressed, bright - trebly. Cymbals sound tizzy, drums sound like garbage cans. I bought the other four as well and I'm frightened to listen to them! :(

Very sad to read this, let us know how the others sound. Hoping the sound is not like the others.

I received these five titles today from Amazon UK and I'm pleased with my purchase. As with the other Edsel titles, they come with very nice expanded booklets which include lyrics, credits, additional session photos and artwork, and new liner notes. Sound quality is subjective so I will just say that Edsel does a decent job. They are not the best, nor are they anywhere near the worst. To my knowledge, these titles have never been remastered before, so it's nice to have a new perspective on these albums after listening to the same CD's for the past 20-25 years. Also of note is Steve Miller's first single, a non-album track titled Sittin' in Circles, which I've never heard before. It's included as a bonus track on the first album.

IMO, perceived sound quality is likely to be especially impacted by 3 things:

1. The quality & voicing of your playback system.
2. " " ears
3. How you are used to hearing music (do you mostly listen to brickwalled cd's or higher quality mastering?)

I might have to get Children only for the bonus single track. I'll wait for a big overall consensus on these otherwise......I have the original 5 CDs and am spending too much CD $$$$ elsewhere.

1. Your definition of "quality", let alone "sound quality" is different than mine or anybody else.
2. Short of someone having a hearing aid, tell me you aren't trying to grade people's ears.
3. I have 3000+ cds. I couldn't care less how many are "brickwalled" or, even more meaningless, "higher quality mastering" (what exactly is that other than your opinion?) No, "perceived sound quality is likely to be impacted" by ONE thing: Does it sound good to you or not?
