I found the following information at SpinCds.com: release date of 10/22.
"From the Knees of My Heart captures studio and live tracks from the late 70s and early 80s. It is a sparkling collection that beats vibrantly with some of Ian’s finest recordings." Campbell Devine - June 2012
A 4CD jackpot of 62 tracks including Ian Hunter’s renowned Chrysalis albums You’re Never Alone with a Schizophrenic, Short Back ‘n’ Sides and Welcome to the Club, an unissued CD - Ian Hunter Rocks - plus various rare songs, studio outtakes and previously unreleased cuts.
You’re Never Alone with a Schizophrenic: - Recorded at The Power Station in New York City with Mick Ronson, members of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and John Cale, for many fans, Ian’s fourth solo album remains his finest. - Singles include: ‘Standin’ in My Light’ ‘Bastard’ and ‘The Outsider’ - The title ‘You’re never alone with a schizophrenic’ came from a phrase Mick Ronson found scrawled on a New York toilet wall and “traded” it with Ian for a song-writing credit! The original working title was The Outsider.
Welcome to the Club: - Originally to be titled From the Knees of My Heart, Welcome to the Club is a full-blooded live collection recorded at The Roxy in Los Angeles, released with four “live-in-the-studio” cuts including ‘Silver Needles’, partly inspired by the death of Sex Pistols’ bassist Sid Vicious.
Short Back ‘n’ Sides: - The working title for Ian’s 1981 album was Theatre of the Absurd. Hunter and Ronson invited Clash guitarist and Mott fan Mick Jones to assist with the title track but he stayed for production of the entire project. - Includes: rare 'Short Back' session tracks form the long deleted Long Odds 'n' Outtakes disc that once accompanied a 1994 Chrysalis re-issue CD, plus two previously unreleased cuts.
Ian Hunter Rocks: Recorded at the Dr Pepper Festival in New York City and originally released on video by Chrysalis, Hunter’s 1981 live performance featured songs from the then-current Short Back ‘n’ Sides album plus earlier Mott and solo material. - Includes a 14-minute medley incorporating ‘Irene Wilde’, ‘All the Young Dudes’, ‘Honaloochie Boogie’, ‘Roll Away the Stone’ and ‘Ships’. Following the ‘Short Back’ studio sessions, Ronson had opted not to tour so Ian’s live band included guitarist Robbie Alter, bassist Mark Clarke and keyboard player Tommy Mandel.

I wish they'd offer the Dr. Pepper live set as a separate CD. And why is "We Gotta Get Out of Here" an alternate version? The song got a lot of play on WNEW back then.

I've always wondered who Silver Needles was about! My guess had been Lowell George. I hope this is semi affordable. I have 2 King Biscuits & A Westwood One from the Short back Tour that are AWESOME, though this disc 4 has a pretty different track listing.
I also hope they remaster Welcome to The Club for this set. The LP had great sound, & the cd is horribly compressed.

Grooves (located in France) is a killer marketplace. I was going to preorder Ian but when I got there I found too many things instead. Example, Deep Purple "Come Taste The Band: 35th Anniversary" the 2 cd set, $ 9.44. Are you kidding me? WOW! And they will ship at no cost on orders that are over $25.00 I believe. So Ian, next month for you. Rick A.

I am so all over this, & I am praying that disc 2 is a new remaster. Both the UK & USA Welcome To The Club CD's SUCK sonically, while the old vinyl sounded quite good..

There's been a big price drop on Amazon UK. Even with the current horrid exchange rate, total delivered to the USA is $18.26.
I really can't afford this, but am seriously considering.

One last thought: re the Dr Pepper fest stuff, I have several promo live LP's from this period (Westwood & KBFH) & they're REALLY GOOD. I suspect therse are the same recordings, finally on cd.
Only thing that sucks is the Sons & Daughters from Welcome To The Club is not on here (it says "alternate version), so I'll likely have to keep that also. Short of checking my collection, I have a suspicion that similar will be true for Schizophrenic & Short which also both have 2 cd versions out. I guess the way to look at this is one is paying $18 for the disc 4 of rarities, which would have been a bargain for an import 4 years ago.

OK, here's what's missing on this from the UK 2 cd sets:
Welcome To The Club:
When The Daylight Comes (Live) Medley: Once Bitten Twice Shy/Bastard/Cleveland Rocks We Gotta Get Out of Here (Live) Sons And Daughters (original live version)
These 2 MAY be on disc 4: Silver Needles (Live) Man O' War (Live)
EDIT: The above was not correct. Here is the corrected information:
Missing from Welcome To The Club:
When The Daylight Comes (Live) Medley: Once Bitten Twice Shy/Bastard/Cleveland Rocks Original mix of We've Got To Get Out Of Here
You’re Never Alone with a Schizophrenic:
Just Another Night (Early Version) (aka The Other Side Of Life) Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On
And all of the live disc 2: 1. F.B.I. (Live In Cleveland 18/6/79) 2. Once Bitten Twice Shy (Live In Cleveland 18/6/79) 3. Life After Death (Live In Cleveland 18/6/79) 4. Sons And Daughters (Live At The Hammersmith Odeon 22/11/79) 5. Laugh At Me (Live At The Hammersmith Odeon 22/11/79) 6. Just Another Night (Live At The Hammersmith Odeon 22/11/79) 7. One Of The Boys (Live At The Hammersmith Odeon 22/11/79) 8. Letter To Brittania From Union Jack (Live In Berkeley 7/7/79) 9. Bastard (Live In Berkeley 7/7/79) 10. All The Way From Memphis (Live In Cleveland 18/6/79) 11. Cleveland Rocks (Live In Cleveland 18/6/79) 12. All The Young Dudes (Live At The Hammersmith Odeon 22/11/79) 13. When The Daylight Comes (Live In Cleveland 18/6/79) 14. Sweet Angeline (Live In Cleveland 18/6/79)
However, 2 tracks are ADDED that are not on the 2 cd set:
The Outsider (Early Version) Alibi
Short Back ‘n’ Sides: Detroit (Rough Mix-instrumental) I Need Your Love (Rough Mix) Rain (Alternative Mix) Theatre Of The Absurd Na Na Na ( Extended Mix) Old Records Never Die (Version 1)
Also, apparently Short Back is oop except on this set which I wasn't aware of & sells for a fortune (or at least USED to!)

Ordered. Came to $18.37 at today's rate. Will report on sound quality when it arrives (Hopefully it will ship from the UK & not from Germany!).

Got it today. The good news is it's in a jewelcase, not cardboard!
It was "mastered by Peter Mew at Abbey Road". No other sonic information is provided. From a quick comparison of 3 Welcome To the club tracks (the album I was most concerned about sonically), the new version is both louder (more compressed, but also as much more detail (likely better more modern a/d convertors). Comparing the dynamic range on the first 11 tracks of WTTC on Foobar (the only valid comparison due to splitting both versions over 2 cd's & the 2 missing & 1 alternate track) , the original UK cd scored DR 12 (acceptable for a 44/16 cd), the new version scores a DR9 (not so good). I'm surprised I enjoyed the sound as much as I did. One thing I did find interesting; On the new version there is a large audible drop in volume between FBI & Once Bitten; that drop doesn't occur on the original 2 cd edition.
I think the alternate version of We Got To Get Out Of Here is simply a remix, though there is so much more detail it's hard to tell for certain. Oddly, both versions run exactly 3:14, but the new version starts with a drum stick count off & the original does not.
Also briefly checked the Pepsi fest on disc 4. It is definitely the same tour as the King Biscuit & Westwood One shows I mention above, but definitely not the same show. Very glad to have it, though. Long as I'm mentioning DR ratings, Disc 4 scored DR10 (again considered unacceptable; the audiophile community' conventional wisdom seems to be that acceptable for 44/16 cd is anything 12 & above.).
I haven't yet spent any time with Schizophrenic or Short as i already own the 2 cd versions, & they were of the least interest to me here because of that.
To sum up, if you don't already own these albums, this is an absolute steal, especially as Short was oop world wide & still sells for a fortune.
If like me you do own all 3 of the 2 cd editions, at this price I still consider it worthwhile for the Pepsi fest on disc 4 (which apparently was previously released in the UK on VHS!), & there are some benefits to the new mastering; though I do wish it was less compressed. Though not as bad as many releases, The loudness wars do strike again, without the compression this would sound stunning.

Someday I'm going to learn to look at my collection before posting. For accuracy, the Dr Pepper Fest show on this is from an unstated date in 9/81. The 3 radio promo LP's I have are from the following: 10/18/81, 3/5/82 & 5/23/82.

One last comment: It's much brighter (unpleasantly so) on my computer than on my main system in places.

Finally got a note over the weekend from Amazon US that they can't fill my order and are cancelling it. I immediately ordered from Amazon UK and it's already been shipped.
