I've always wanted to acquire the old Universal monster movies on DVD, but just never did. Now they're coming out with a handsome Blu-ray set. At 112 bones, it's not cheap, but on a per-movie basis, that's not bad at all.

And they've selected the "best of the best," each of which is a classic:

Dracula
Frankenstein
The Mummy
The Invisible Man
The Bride of Frankenstein
The Wolf Man
Phantom of the Opera
Creature From the Black Lagoon

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008FL8OTK/?tag=imwan-20

I think what appeals to me most is the slim packaging -- I get tired of storing a box for every single movie. I like it when they come in these booklet-ey packages.

By the way, it doesn't come out until October 2.

I can't. This realization is quite depressing.

(Quite.)

I bought Wolfman, Dracula, and Frankenstein when they came out on DVD... they had all or most of the various sequels as part of each movie's deluxe set, including one film where Lugosi played Frankenstein.

Hey, I changed your quote to say that! You don't really think that, and neither do I, good buddy! I was only goofin'!

Now let's go watch The Wolf Man and be scared out of our socks!

I think buying the DVDs might be superior, since you get so many more movies with each monster's set.

Those up there are kind of the gold standard, the ones that almost everything agrees are not shark-jumpers. The only sequel in the lot is the most esteemed of the lot, Bride of Frankenstein.

Yeah, I guess it depends on what you're after. For me, the awful but still entertaining sequels provide a lot of value.

Getting it, although I have no real reason to. Already have all six Legacy Collections, plus the 75th anniversary editions of Frankenstein and The Mummy.

Received my set today. Very attractive book style packaging. Each disc in is in a bound-in sleeve, with all the information about extras printed on the sleeve (so you don't have to wonder or pull out the sleeve.

I only have the Legacy Collections for Frankenstein, Dracula & The Wolfman. I haven't been able to find the others, the 75th Anniversary of Frankenstein is nice as well, didn't know they made one for The Mummy...

The Dracula transfer looks amazing. Whereas, the Frankenstein transfer, while good, does not "pop" like Dracula does. I only looked at two of them.

Blast it -- it's been about 9 months since I had a problem, but the Dracula disk is causing my Cyberlink software to seek an update that isn't there. (These enhanced blu-rays cause my computer's blu-ray software to get confused sometimes). The disk does great in the PS3. I think it is the active pop-up menu they've installed on it -- if you pause the movie, a software menu pops up along the bottom.

The Frankenstein disk works fine, but the pop-up menu looks misaligned (on the computer, not the PS3).

That has happened to me a few times.

It's just not worth it.

They also did 75th anniversary editions of Dracula and The Wolfman (This one they just called a Special Edition.)

I've become mesmerized by Bride of Frankenstein. I can't stop popping it in at night and watching it. Best moobie ever. It's so crazy, and good at the same time.
