CD Description
Special Limited Deluxe Collector s Edition / Fully remastered sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / Features Bob Welch (Fleetwood Mac), Glenn Cornick (Jethro Tull) & Thom Mooney (The Nazz) / 16 page full colour booklet 3,000 word essay, enhanced artwork, memorabilia, rare photos and new interviews. IT S CONSTANTLY baffling how many great records get lost in the shuffle. Dig a little deeper into the void and the amount of utterly spellbinding albums, which barely registered a blip on the radar when released, can now be reassessed as works of staggering accomplishment. The debut Paris album is one such creation, a record that continues to defy all attempts to dismiss it as little more than a passing curio. In many respects Paris, the band, can be labelled as a mini supergroup. Formed by ex Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welch, with former Jethro Tull bassist Glenn Cornick and drummer Thom Mooney from the Nazz, they were signed to Capitol records and put into the studio with seasoned producer/engineer Jimmy Robinson (Detective). The recording took nearly a year and the results were spectacular. Unashamedly reminiscent of Led Zeppelin, the band s style focussed on powerful, crunchy riffs, laced with a funky undertow. But it wasn t all about the music as Bob Welch s bizarre, some might say, spooky lyrics provided yet another murky depth to the package. With references to both religion and metaphysical inspiration, the songs make for captivating listening; check out Black Book , Beautiful Youth , Rock Of Ages and album centre piece Narrow Gate (La Porte Etroite) for some of the best examples of mid-seventies hard rock crafted by any band this side of Led Zeppelin.

Wow-another stunner from Rock Candy. I remember seeing this album in the delete bins as a kid and assumed it was some Disco act, not realizing until years later it was a mini-supergoup that did some brilliant 70's Hard Rock w/ balls. This label does such wonderful work and it's always first-rate and they really know what people want to hear. This is a true lost classic and I am very much looking forward to it. Amazing that w/ the Wounded Bird reissues and this remaster how the late Bob Welch (R.I.P.) is quickly not forgotten as these were obviously in the works before his sad passing. A must have.

I hope that a remaster of Big Towne 2061 will follow. Both of the Paris albums are excellent. They're usually referred to as a power trio, but I think they had more in common with bands like Be Bop Deluxe. Experimental and futuristic.

I heartily concur regarding Big Towne. I had my vinyl of these out a few weeks back and they are in rough shape so this is welcome news indeed. I saw PARIS back in the day, however, and they were indeed a power trio.

I have a version of this album on CD that I got some time ago. I can't remember the label offhand. Oddly enough, my CD has one track that doesn't show up here...a track called "Religion".

Religion is the second track on the CD and the vinyl versions. The CD I have is on Zoom Club label. I can't imagine why they would leave Religion off the new reissue. It's a great tune.

This tracklisting is from AmazonUK so it is very possible that "Religion" is still on there and the tracklisting is off. Other than a problem with the master tapes, I don't know why they'd drop a song from the album.

Rock Candy is providing a track listing which shows "Religion" as the opening track. We'll have to wait and see if that's a mistake or if it was Welch's original intent.

There we go-made no sense to me why a great, professional label like Rock Candy would omit a song. Didn't think they would. Although this is greedy, I'd love to get Big Towne 2061 remastered too, but then again, I also wanted the 2nd Detective album remastered (as well as the 2nd Fastway album now) and that didn't happen so I will be happy with just this one.

Haven't Rock Candy put out remastered catalogues in stages before? Maybe Big Towne 2061 is still yet to come.

Living on the edge.
Oddly enough, the All Music Guide also lists "Religion" as the first track on the album (assuming they mean the old album) but if you listen to the track samples, it's not really "Religion" that's first. It seems like someone has their track listings off and everyone else is copying them incorrectly. I'm betting that the actual release will have this corrected.

They usually don't, but they may have in the past. Usually they put out whatever they are from an artists at once, but that is not set in stone. I do have a contact there and I can ask him. It usually depends on sales/interest and liscensing if they go farther on an artist.
