That photo they used for the cover, which might be the very first Knack promo photo from 1975 when Doug and Berton were still just a duo recording demos with friends, is so powerful. Imagine what it must have looked like at the time, in that era and its musical environment. Probably as alien and opposite to the status quo as Big Star looked, and Shoes and other young bands of their ilk. That primal, '60s-influenced imagery speaks volumes about The Knack's intentions.

Not such great quality, but it's a miracle that this still exists at all. It's a self-financed promo video from 1975 featuring Doug, Berton and two unidentified musician friends. At this point the formative band is called "Douglust" (get it?), but they would shortly become The Knack:
