FWIW, I liked the Juggernaut story Roger Stern did.

I've heard that the Spider Island stories are good. Monk?

I'll answer for him. Anything from Big Time onward (all by Dan Slott) is fantastic, as that starts a new beginning in the story and is very easily followed with minimal crossovers.

Does Monk have one of those rules about answering a question directed to him before he gets a chance to answer?

I love Spider-Man since one more day. I wasn't thrilled with the marriage being retconned but...i prefer single Spidey.

Monk has taken a vow of silence.

See what I did there?

Because "Monk."

Get it?

Everything written since Ben Reilly died in a puff of smoke has been heresy.

"Brand New Day" - Slott/McNiven
"Sometimes It Snows In Winter", etc - Wells/Bachalo
"Paparazzi" - Slott/Martin
"Kraven's First Hunt" - Guggenheim/Jimenez
"New Ways To Die" - Slott/JRjr
"Family Ties" - Kelly/Bachalo
"Old Huntin' Buddies" - Wells/Rivera
"Unscheduled Stop" - Waid/Martin
"Character Assassination" - Guggenheim/JRjr
"24/7" - Waid/McKone

This link here has issue numbers - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Th ... er_2010.29

There's some later stuff that's also been really good (since Slott took over as sole writer). Generally, if you avoid anything written by Bob Gale it's a solid run of Spider-Man stories. If it involves Marcos Martin, Dan Slott, Mark Waid, Joe Kelly, Zeb Wells, JRjr, or Chris Bachalo it's really good.,

I really like the Flash Thompson stuff in the post-Big Time era that leads into the Venom series, which is also really good.

What I read of Venom was good. It came around the time that I dropped a bunch of Marvel, though, so I only read the first arc, I think.

I dislike the Joe Kelly stuff but otherwise I agree with Monk (at least as much of it as I've read; mostly fell away from new comics in the last year).

Maybe I'll check out the JR JR and Martin stuff, since I'd be guaranteed to at least like the art.

Thanks, Matt!

The Juggernaut arc by Stern and Weeks is really good. Especially if you read the classic one that's a prequel to this.

The Sandman story stood out to me

So if you can find
The Gauntlet, Book 1: Electro and Sandman

Which has this plus some others

612 - [Waid/Paul Azaceta] "Power to the People" Part 1: Electro
613 - [Waid/Azaceta] "Power to the People" Part 2
614 - [Waid/Azaceta] "Power to the People" Part 3
615 - [Van Lente/Javier Pulido] "Keemia's Castle" Part 1
616 - [Van Lente/Pulido] "Keemia's Castle" Part 2: Sandman

BTW, what is the premise to "The Gauntlet"? I found it odd that some storyline was spread out over 5 TPBs.

Spider-man goes up individually with his rogues gallery. I don't recall them connected, other than thematically him facing his classic enemies.

Matt, sorry -- I finally got a chance to look at some of these and see what issues are in them and I have everything from the beginning of Brand New Day through... uh... somewhere between #608 - #610. The weekly schedule was just way too much for me at that point and I think I actually stopped reading the issues around #600 or #601... I didn't think it was bad but I tend to let piles build up and read them in one go -- at the weekly rate, Spidey was building up too fast for me to keep up.

What about after that point? It looks like that's when all the Gauntlet business took over.

(BTW, the weekly thing is nuts -- I briefly thought about catching up in floppies but see the book's all the way up to #689!!!)

Best to skip all that -- as it's not really in continuity anymore (well, it is, but it's not being referred to) and just start with Big Time. That's what I did.

Wait, what? Why isn't it in continuity?
