Four concerts. Six discs. $102. Out September.

Disc 1: Town Hall Concert, April 4, 1964
-This is the same concert released by Jazz Workshop on vinyl (and Fantasy on CD). That release only has "So Long Eric" and "Praying with Eric" (a/k/a "Meditations on Integration").

Discs 2 and 3: Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, April 10, 1964
-This was only released on vinyl in France.

Disc 4: Mingus At Monterey, September 20, 1964
-Self-released on vinyl, never reissued.

Discs 5 and 6: My Favorite Quintet, Minneapolis, May 13, 1965
-Disc 5 was self-released on vinyl. Disc 6 is from the same concert, but unreleased.

Also from the same series of concerts: Cornell 1964 (on Blue Note), The Great Concert of Charles Mingus (on America, reissued by Verve), and Right Now: Live at the Jazz Workshop (on Fantasy).

Great news! For me, Mingus is one of the most underrated jazz artists/composers of all time and embodies the spirit of jazz for the period covering the late fifties to the mid sixties as much as, if not more than, any other artist during this period. My very first Mosaic order, back in 1992, was the Mingus Candid set and the Freddie Redd set and it seems fitting to celebrate 20 years of buying Mosaic sets with more Mingus, most of which I've not heard before.

Plasquatch, you mention the other recordings from the same series of concerts. I've not heard the The Great Concert, I guess I'm kind of saving that for an occasion when I need some new Mingus, but the other two recordings are great. On the face of it, the only tinge of disappointment about this set is that it could have included the complete Right Now performance. Nevermind, it looks a great release!

Snag! Love this era Mingus (I didn't know this set was in the pipeline). Also, the Mingus Jazz Icons dvd is as essential for his Dolphy/Coles/Byard ensemble. I've been buying Mosaics since the first Monk set, and have over 80 to date. Every one essential.

For those who care about sound quality, you may want to find out if Andreas Meyer is the mastering engineer before purchasing. He's done the last 3 Mosaic's I bought, & all were loud & bright. The whole thing rally saddens me, because until recently I could always count on Mosaic to be pretty much in audiophile territory.

Apart from the Mingus and Chick/Ella sets, any word on what's in the pipeline at Mosaic? Any more Select sets?

Been listening to the Mingus set this past week. Superb and highly recommended.
