aka "The Claremont Curse".

Okay, a few givens (based on my opinion)

1) Chris Claremont's best work was on X-Men
2) Several talented writers have worked on the book besides Claremont
3) All of those writers have turned in, if not bad work, at the least some of their worst work.

So, what otherwise talented writer would you say has done their worst work on an X-book?

The curse of the X-Men is that there are too many books to allow for a coherent vision which also makes it disruptive to the epic stories that made the book popular in the 80s.

Love X-Men, love Ed Brubaker. Hated Ed Brubaker writing X-Men.

Didn't Mark Waid have a run on the X-Men in the 90s?

They just need to bring Bob Harras back to edit the books into a large cohesive story like he did in the 90s.

He wrote and drew some porn comics in the early 90's that were quite good.

QUITE.

At some point I think we have to consider the possibility that the X-Men suck.

My least favorite works of Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis and Ed Brubaker were on the X-Men.

I preferred Seagle, Kelly and Carey on the X-Men than on other books, though.

Millar has little talent to kill, so there.

Yeah, four or five issues. Maybe a bit more. He left because he disagreed with Lobdell about he nature of Onslaught.

I was heartened by an interview he gave where he said that he had listed all of the dangling plot-lines in the books and had promised to resolve them all within a year's time. Then he was booted off of the book. :(

My pick was Brubaker. Given the quality of his creator-owned work (Criminal, Incognito, Fatale) and other superhero work (Captain America, Daredevil) his X-Men comics were just a crushing disappointment.

Claremont on X-Men, New Mutants, and Excalibur says you're wrong. As does Science.

Claremont jumped the shark with Mutant Massacre.

I disagree, but even then there are about 10 years worth of Claremont comics before that.

The only fail in Claremont's run was Madelyn Pryor. Other than that, the writing was flawless.
