Keane announce full details of comeback album 'Strangeland'
Keane have announced that they will release their fourth studio album 'Strangeland' in May.
The Sussex band will release the album, which has been produced by The Vaccines/Howling Bells cohort Dan Grech-Marguerat, on May 7. It contains a total of 12 tracks.
Speaking about the album, Tim Rice-Oxley said: "'Strangeland' feels like an adventure that brings with it different things for different people, and like any adventure is full of uncertainty, and the potential for mishap, as well as the possibility of amazing things and glorious discoveries. I love the idea of the journey through 'Strangeland' being a journey of redemption."
The band will tour in support of 'Strangeland' in May, playing a total of nine shows. The run begins at Newcastle's O2 Academy on May 23 and runs until June 8 when Keane will headline London's O2 Academy Brixton.
'Strangeland' is the band's first album since 'Perfect Symmetry', which came out in 2008.
The tracklisting for 'Strangeland' is as follows:
'You Are Young' 'Silenced By The Night' 'Disconnected' 'Watch How You Go' 'Sovereign Light Café' 'On The Road' 'The Starting Line' 'Black Rain' 'Neon River' 'Day Will Come' 'In Your Own Time' 'Sea Fog'

I enjoyed their first two albums, but my interest in them kind of faded after that. I find it interesting that this article said "comeback", since I didn't realize that they were ever gone away. It will be interesting to see how good this one is though. I'm hopeful, but cautious.

Like Walter (Steve), I loved the first two albums, and in fact, I consider 2006's "Under The Iron Sea" to be one of the best albums of the 2000's. It's been sheer mediocrity since, but I'll be eager to hear this new one.

I actually like the third album, although not as much as the first two. I was happy to see they got out of their comfort zone & incorporated some new sounds, making them a lot less predictable. I will definitely be checking out the new one. Looks like they're officially a quartet now.

I'm a fan too. I thought Perfect Symmetry was a slight step down from the first two, but still pretty good. There's a preview video of the new album on their web site, and you can hear snippets of a couple new songs. It sounds like a return to the sound of the first album... very nice.

+1. Keane is one of the few bands from the last 20 years that I get excited about. (Granted, Night Train was a bit of a stumble, but not horrible.) Looking forward to the new album!

My thoughts exactly Ven...loved the first two, thought "Perfect Symmetry" was a small step down and just couldn't get into "Night Train" at all. My fingers are crossed when it comes to the new one.

I believe the deluxe has four extra tracks including the following...
"Strangeland" "Run With Me" "The Boys" "It's Not True"
Hmmm...I guess this makes the album a candidate for one of our threads about albums where the title track didn't actually make the album. Then again, if it's on the deluxe version, maybe it is?

Thanks for the info about the deluxe version, Walter, and I'm glad to hear, djej, that the album is good. I was feeling skittish about getting the new one, since I couldn't get into the last two release at all, particularly Night Train (admittedly, I'm not a fan of most rap or hip hop). But I'll give this new one a try.

Finally listened to this tonight. A definite return to form! I do wish the boys would learn some new chord progressions, but overall a really enjoyable album.

I agree with Ven. Just listened to it for a second time yesterday and really liked it, even though it all sounded very familiar. The bonus tracks on the deluxe edition are among the most interesting songs, so for anyone who's on the fence about this album, definitely get that version.

Thanks Richman666, I was on the fence as you noted so with your comments I will go for the deluxe. Thanks for the post and Ven for his comments as well.
