Mark Knopfler is one of about a handful of artists whose new releases I will still buy, sound unheard. Looking forward to this one. Thanks for the heads-up.

I think I've changed my mind. Something isn't hitting me right about the way this one's being marketed.

I listened to it over the weekend. The rock and bluesy stuff is great but then he throws in those 'traditional' Celtic sounding numbers. Makes me think William Wallace or Robin Hood are going to emerge from the woods near my house.

Gotta be honest, I used to be a huge fan but after the last two records I've lost interest. I'll skip this one and listen to Sailing to Philadelphia and Shangri la instead.
And why is Don Zimmer in the video talking about the album?

I just wish he'd get his old band "Dire Straits" back together and record an album, its been far too long. Last CD release I liked was 96's "Golden Heart" and its subsequent CD singles that came after it. Most of everything since then is him strumming on guitar mumbling into a microphone. With DS his musical volume cranked now its almost at a whisper. Come on Mark get Dire Straits back together and record some really great songs. Oh and then back it up with a nice tour!

After a slightly rocky start, I don't mind this one at all. Definitely prefer the more rock-oriented stuff, but it's pretty solid all the way through. Parts of it remind me a little bit of the "Local Hero" soundtrack (minus "Going Home").

Thanks for the 411 regarding this David. Do you have a CD copy of Mark Knopfller's CD compilation, "Screenplaying"? Its worth picking up if you don't already have it. It has all of his solo works in the movies including all the songs he composed for the movie "Local Hero". Also MK did the soundtrack for the movie, "A Shot at Glory" starring Robert Duval. If you liked Local Hero then you'll like that one as well. Hope this helps!

I have "Screenplaying" and the "Local Hero" soundtrack, which I love. (Great movie, too, BTW; on a driving tour of Scotland a few years ago, the little town where it was filmed, Pennan, was #2 on my must see list after Loch Ness.) Will definitely need to check out "A Shot at Glory," which I was not familiar with at all. Thanks for mentioning it!

I love his album with the Notting Hillbillies, "Missing...," good, solid, country/folk with a nice, old-timey feel. I've always wished they'd do another one. I also thought his album with Emmylou Harris, All the Roadrunning, a few years ago was excellent.

Local Hero is my favorite film of the 80s. Maybe not the 'best' film of the decade, but the one I never tire of watching.
In my top 10 movies of the 80's aswell. Man do we need a Widescreen remaster Blu-Ray S.E.of this. The soundtrack is one of my fave as well. I have a HDCD of this which I love.

Big fan of Local Hero as well. Such a quiet movie that imparts lots of feeling and wisdom to those willing to recieve. A special connection for me is the fact it was filmed in my hometown of Houston, Texas. Although the shots are few & far between I know where most where taken. Seeing it reminds me how much has changed in H town going on 30 years now. In fact I found myself driving on the same road that Mack was driving at the start of the movie just a half hour ago. I sometimes wonder why the film producers chose Houston at all? Not that I'm complaining or anything just curious is all. I guess it had to be filmed somewhere so why not Houston? Great movie, great soundtrack & glimpses of my hometown the way it was a perfect combination if there ever was one!
