Heard "Handbags and Gladrags" while golfing this week, one of my partners was able to use his bluetooth phone and wirelessly connect a Jawbone Blu Tooth Speaker system so we could hear tunes as we drove around the course.

He has immecable musical taste and this song came up in the mix.

And I do believe I already have this collection around here somewhere. A must buy at this price!

This intrigues me...the thing is, I've had that "Storyteller" boxed set for years but have never really tried to figure out which songs are Stewart songs, and which ones are Faces songs. Looking at this collection, however, am I to assume that, unlike "Storyteller", there is no Faces material on here?

Conversely, is there a Faces comp that does not overlap with this set (avoiding solo Stewart, in other words?)

Does anybody care to voice a preference between early solo Rod and his Faces stuff?

This set is a must in my book. Just love it. As for Faces and early Rod some of it was concurrent. Kind of bugged the Faces abit, that was Rod was starting to have even more success in sales (and popularity) than the Faces.

How's the sound? I used to own the "Mercury Anthology" which sounded wretched, & now own "Gold" which while compressed, is still better sounding than "Anthology".

Bad. I'm no audiophile but this is one of the few sets I've dumped purely for sound reasons.

According to AllMusic, Suha Gur remastered this set. He was one of the better mastering engineers at UMG during his tenure...his work on Motown product is very good. What exactly is off about this set? I'd probably buy it just on seeing Gur's name in the credits.

There is a Faces compilation called Five Guys Walk Into A Bar...
That's only Faces material. Great set in my opinion.

It sounded harsh to me plus I swear my version had clicks on some of the tracks like the kind you'd hear from a poorly ripped CDR.
I think other people have noticed clicks as well. Maybe it was a bad pressing.
I've never had issue with any of Suha Gur's other masterings.

Five Guys Walk Into a Bar is a 4-CD Faces box set w/ a fantastic assortment of songs, excellent liner notes and great sound quality. A must have for any Rod Stewart & Faces fan.

The only Mercury album attributed to Rod Stewart & the Faces was the live Coast to Coast - Overture and Beginners, therefore not represented on this set. You do get some choice non-album tracks, however.

As for the Faces, besides the 5 Guys... box set, Rhino also issued the single CD Good Boys...When They're Asleep best-of, and the 2-CD Definitive Rock Collection.

Heard the Faces song "Ooh La La" twice the other day. Once driving up to PA and the on the way home 2 days later.

I never liked the Mercury Faces live album.

Yes, it's never been well regarded, even upon its initial release. Another LP that was quickly relegated to the cut-out bins.

The music on this set is brilliant. The mastering is horrible.

I haven't recently pulled out any of my Rod Stewert discs containing Faces material, but if memory serves...haven't they always sounded somewhat substandard?

Not on the Faces boxed set, IMHO.
