I'm also surprised at the relatively low chart rank you mentioned for "Major Tom". I heard this song a lot in Mississippi when it was originally released and still hear it quite a bit on XM (80's on 8). It's definitely a classic 80's song. "5...4...3...2...1..."!

There was a real disconnect between Billboard and what was actually popular with young fans in those days. Thank goodness for Alternate Rock stations in the 80s

Actually, "Major Tom (Coming Home)" peaked at #14 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The album, "Error In The System", peaked at #63 on the Billboard 200 (Albums Chart).
