I have a buddy who is getting me into board games. Thus far, I have played Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, Hive, Castle Panic, and others. It is a fun diversion, and I thought we could talk about fun games we have tried or post good reviews of games. In that spirit, I thought I would share Wil Wheaton's fun show. Here is the most recent episode.

I posted about the cute nerdy comic book girl, but no one seemed to notice. I still think she is cute . . .

And here is something interesting I have read:

Quote:
• The Wheaton Effect, cont.: On Friday, May 18, 2012, the day that the Ticket to Ride episode of Wil Wheaton's TableTop debuts, the game sits at #41 on the Toys & Games best-selling list on Amazon.com. Come Monday, May 21 and a 103,000 views later, the game sits at #22. Two days later, the view count stands at 130k and TtR's sales rank on Amazon is #16.

I've played Settlers of Catan a few times when visiting with friends. I enjoy it but it's one of those games where I always end up making some stupid move and end up losing in the end.

I played this game as a kid and have the version being reviewed here. I highly recommend this game. So fun.

I'm terrible at Settler's of Catan, but it can be fun with the right group of people.

This year's new game for us was Tobago. (Ta Bay Go)

It's pretty fun.

Ticket To Ride and Settlers of Catan are great games, too.

My personal faves -

Advanced Heroquest

Cluedo ('Clue' in Americanese)

Wabbit Wampage

...and of course, Warhammer 40K. Technically a tabletop war game not a conventional board game, but I'm mentioning it anyway. :)

I never knew anybody who played that -- my comic shop is half comics and half Warhammer (with extensive space for playing, with all these tables that have fake grass and miniature trees on them). Marcus spoke up once and said one of his kids got into it.

My LCS guy says he makes about as much on that, and the two things mix well. But almost no overlap (dual customers).

I am thinking about buying Yggdrasil.
It's a co-op game, and it's Norse-Themed. Sounds interesting.

There's a comic shop in town that is a few doors down from a gaming shop. They have a gentleman's agreement to not overlap in merchandise (except in the case of Heroclix). There is also an old school game store about a block down from that.

It might be fun, though I suspect it's limited in that one would tire of it quickly, like the possible strategies may be rather limited, unlike chess, which one can play for years exploring various options. But I can't be sure.

Also, it's a two-player game, so that cuts down on family get together opportunities to play it.

I played a game called Blockus once. Kind of like Tetris in board game form. It was fun.

Discussed with the Broto tonight a new game design:

COOP, the Co-op Game. It's about chickens. ;-)

Hive is fun, very portable, and quick. A game is usually 15 minutes. The game has lots of replay level. Let I said earlier, I highly recommend this game. And, they have a version for the Ipad, if you want.

Carcassonne is a great tile game.

It even works as a two-person game.

I play solitaire on the app sometimes. Haven't tried the Ticket to Ride app yet.

Warhammer 40K is pretty expensive. I think Bully was into it as well.

Hive? Nope, didn't try it. We got Kingsburg this year for a new game. I like it.

I like Tobago and Settlers of Catan on the rare board-gaming occasion. We bought semi-precious little square beads for the "treasures" in the former.
