Product Description
Father John Misty is the nom-de-plume of Josh Tillman, who has been releasing solo albums since 2003 and who left Seattle's Fleet Foxes after playing drums from 2008-2011. Fear Fun consists of such disparate elements as Waylon Jennings, Harry Nilsson, Arthur Russell, and Physical Graffiti, often within the same song. Tillman's voice has never been better, while the music maintains a dark, mysterious yet playful quality. Fear Fun is Father John Misty's Sub Pop debut and was produced by Phil Ek (Modest Mouse, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes).

The video for lead single "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings" features Aubrey Plaza from NBC's Parks and Recreation.

This is pretty good, but I have to say I was disappointed. I discovered J. Tillman last year, and everything he did before this was spare and haunting -- usually just guitar (or banjo) and voice. This is much different -- more band, more instruments, more production. Like I said, it's not bad, but it just doesn't have the same impact for me as his spare, acoustic stuff.

I'm late getting around to this album but it was well worth the wait. Really enjoyed the songwriting and Tillman's vocals. I picked up my copy at a local record store which gave away a 5 song EP of demos of tracks from the album- great stuff, I wish the disc had included every song from the main record.
