I've checked out Avengers vs. X-Men 1-3. What a piece of crap that is. :(

These numbers don't surprise me at all, and it doesn't have much to do with any decline in quality. People cut back on comics when the economy tanked, and those that have stuck around have kept steady.

Explain DC's numbers, then. It's gotta be more than the economy.

DC readers adapt to a falling economy quicker than Marvel readers.

Anytime there's a relaunch numbers go up; look above when you had relaunches of series that ended and you'll see spikes (albeit brief ones). DC did something unprecedented in scale, but it's essentially "start over with number one issues", added to "huge event", a combination of which ensures increased sales for the short term. There's still buzz for Nu52, and people are still hanging around, discovering new titles they enjoy, etc. No rocket science, IMO. Marvel will follow suit if things keep going as they are. The big 2 aren't exactly known for originality, and are always copying one another. :)

I'd like Marvel to follow suit, but leave Spider-Man the same.

I'd like Marvel to follow suit, but do a better job than DC did. Start everything over from the beginning. Publish 30 books max.

Also, most DC books are a buck cheaper than Marvel's. People will shell out for "important" purchases like AvX or a Jim Lee JLA, but it likely kills casual purchases (it did for me, I cut back a lot when Marvel went to $4).

Price cut me back significantly too.

I tend to buy more $2.99 books than $3.99 books.

You know what all this really is? Opportunity! Low volume, increased scarcity? Collectors Items! Let's get rich! Am I right?

Do these numbers encompass digital sales? I couldn't find that in the article.

From what I understand - with some exceptions - digital sales add 10% to overall sales. Also these numbers are usually off by 10% - so add a good 20% to these numbers and you get a clear picture of what is selling.
