I didn't read a lot of Valiant back in the day, I remember really enjoying early issues of Magnus Robot Fighter and Solar.

That last cover looks like they're producing the Chronicle movie adaptation.

I think X-O Manowar looks pretty cool.

Is this any relation to Prince Valiant?

I loved the Shooter days at Valiant days. Excellent writing. Stuff looks cool and I understand the desire to relaunch but I'd be more excited if it was a continuation of the Shooter days, set right after Unity.

But I understand.

No no, Valiant. :) (Your post showed up as the word "Image" here because of work filters and I found it amusing)

As mentioned elsewhere, I think the new X-0 Manowar book is fantastic.

Those were the old Gold Key properties, and are now published by Dark Horse, with Shooter writing.

I think they are all cancelled now.

Going to be weird when they start reprinting the old Valiant stuff that crosses over with Magnus and Solar. Wonder if they'll be able to get permission to reprint them as is, even if they can't do any new stories?

I know that there's a lot of animosity between Valiant and the Magnus and Solar and Turok rights-holders...

The painting on those covers is awesome. I got the X-O issue on Free Comic Book Day, but haven't read it yet. I did read some X-O in the past. Who knows? Maybe I'll give it a try...

Apparently the guy in charge of Valiant is Peter Cuneo, the same guy who was in charge of Marvel from 1999 until Disney bought it in 2009. He was apparently one of the key figures that turned Marvel around post-bankruptcy, and has kind of made a career of that. Prior to Marvel, he pulled the same trick for six other companies including Clairol, Black & Decker and Remington.

I wonder if the problem with the rights to the Gold key characters is the reason they started over from scratch

I think the reason they started over from scratch is that it would make no sense to appeal to fans of a universe that was cancelled the first time. I might try some of these books if they're good, but probably wouldn't even bother if it was just a continuation of comics that were last on the stands when I was a kid.

It depends, you isn't also get old time fans very excited to see what happened to the characters. But like I said, I understand why they did it. Plus the old stories are full of characters they have no rights to like Solar.

I think I'm actually going to pick up a copy of X-O.

I'm not sure there are many old time fans of Valiant left. After all, the line did get cancelled and that was after the boomiest period in comics history. The very boomiest.

And the original stories have been out of print forever.
