I like Shawn Colvin quite a bit. I've seen her live several times and each show was very good. Buddy Miller is impressive, too, so this sounds good.

I love Buddy's work in all capacities...singer, songwriter, musician, and producer...whether he's performing solo, with wife Julie, or as part of a backing band as when I saw him perform with Emmylou Harris a few years ago. Hope they're great sessions, Patrick!

Shawn Colvin can do anything she wants. I love her versatility. Buddy Miller is a God among mortals; his endless talent is blinding in its scope. Can this project be anything but special?

Titled "All Fall Down," it arrives June 5. Here's the press release and order link...

Nonesuch to release All Fall Down
Produced by Buddy Miller
(Nonesuch Records – June 5th 2012)

Colvin's memoir, Diamond in the Rough, will be published same day.

On June 5,, 2012, Nonesuch Records will release the new Shawn Colvin album All Fall Down. A collection of 11 songs, All Fall Down is Colvin's eighth studio album and the first to be produced by her longtime friend and cohort Buddy Miller (Robert Plant, Solomon Burke). Recorded in Nashville, with a group of stellar musicians, All Fall Down features performances by Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Jakob Dylan, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bill Frisell, Viktor Krauss, Brian All Fall Down follows the Grammy Award winner's 2009 Nonesuch solo acoustic set, Shawn Colvin Live, and her acclaimed 2006 studio record, These Four Walls, about which the Washington Post said: "As with Colvin's earlier work, the songs are easy to love, with smooth surfaces to glide along if one merely wishes to skim the top. But the emotions fueling the lyrics are more complex and more mature than anything she's offered previously. The image of a middle-aged woman laid bare in These Four Walls isn't one for the industry. It's one for the ages."

The new album was recorded in Miller's home studio, and each song is deeply personal to Colvin, who describes All Fall Down as "an album about loss but also about redemption and resolution." The release of All Fall Down comes on the same date as William Morrow/HarperCollins publishes her memoir, Diamond In The Rough, which insightfully and candidly looks back over a rich lifetime of highs and lows. The wit, lyricism, and empathy found in the book are traits that have long characterized Colvin's songwriting and her live performances.

Colvin wrote or co-wrote eight of the album's 11 tracks. "Change Is On The Way" was co-written with Colvin's Three Girls and Their Buddy (the touring group of Buddy Miller, Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin and Colvin) and partner Patty Griffin, and "Seven Times The Charm" shares writing credits with Jakob Dylan and longtime Colvin collaborator John Leventhal, who also co-wrote "All Fall Down", "Knowing What I Know Now," and "The Neon Light of the Saints," which was written specifically for HBO's New Orleans drama Treme and will be featured in an upcoming episode. (Colvin was a guest star on the show last year.) Bill Frisell penned "Anne of the Thousand Days" with Colvin, and Viktor Krauss co-wrote "I Don't Know You" with her.

In the 22 years since the release of her debut album, Colvin has won three Grammy awards, released nine albums, maintained a non-stop national and international touring schedule, had her songs featured in major motion pictures, written a memoir, and created a remarkable canon of work.Blade, Stuart Duncan, and Julie Miller, among others.

All Fall Down track list in full:

1. All Fall Down
2. American Jerusalem
3. Knowing What I Know Now
4. Seven Times the Charm
5. Anne of the Thousand Days
6. The Neon Light of the Saints
7. Change Is On the Way
8. I Don't Know You
9. Fall of Rome
10. Up On That Hill
11. On My Own

To repeat what 2 of us said above, I hope it's not too country influenced. i know Colvin is touring with Chapin-Carpenter at the moment & i believe they are good friends.

I heard the title song on XM radio while in my brother's car this weekend, and it sounds rather funky! I liked it very much!

Yes, she and Carpenter are good friends. I've seen them separately at Wolf Trap. Carpenter was with a band and Colvin was sometimes solo. Colvin's a very entertaining solo performer, which is a tricky thing to do in a place that holds about 8,000. They have appeared on each other's shows, as well.

Interesting that they are releasing records a week apart. I'll have to pick up both of them.

My understanding is that the current tour is at least partially performing as a duo.

That would be cool, Geff. I haven't seen either of them in at least five years. Colvin is very outgoing and Carpenter is kind of reserved, but their voices work well together. If they work up some stuff together, that could be a lot of fun.

I'm about 1/2 way through 1st listen, & am happy to say that like all of her albums (other than the AWFUL YACA Cover Girl) it's excellent.

While it's the least pop sounding of any of her studio albums, imo the good news it's not the Americana/Country album I was afraid it was going to be.

Highly recommended.

Two words, people... BUDDY MILLER. Even though her ex-husband (John Leventhal) did some great shit, what don't you understand here? :)

I was under the impression that Buddy & Julie Miller did Country & Americana.

not her best (fat city), not her worst (the christmas thing). it is well done, but after one listen i don't really hear a mind-blowing standout cut.

I think if I had to pick a fav it would be Small Repairs. Fortunately never heard the xmas album.

I definitely like this one, though it's has a different feel than anything she's previously done.

shawn colvin could actually release 2 separate CD's:

1 - at the movies

2 - one-offs

and both would be just about full.
