Amazon is showing a street date of 5/29, which means preorders from Hip-O should be forthcoming in the next few days.
Though I would have preferred Hip-O jump to the next studio release (1966's "I Hear A Symphony"), they are releasing the 60's catalog in strict chronological order, so the live album comes next. By now, I'm sure everyone knows the story of just how monumental the 'Sups engagement at the Copa was. Never before had any pop/rock act played that most important of VIP venues; the ultimate pinnacle of supper-club cool. For three weeks, they had all of New York City in their hands, and it was also a successful step for Motown Records as a label; doors now opened to the white mainstream media/audience like never before.
The original November 1965 single LP was a truncated snippet of the show, and Hip-O's double set looks to fix that problem; most importantly restoring the opening song - "From This Moment On" - which was cut during the engagement. With precious little info to go on, I hope this set is a complete weekend run (on Friday and Saturday, they did three shows nightly - 8, 11:30 and 2), maybe even including warm-up comic Bobby Rensen's set and "the world famous Copa Girls." At last, see why all the New York dailies shouted "THE COPA RAINS SUPREMES!"
