This is how a re-issue should be handled, bonus material respectfully mastered and a large portion included (not just one or 2 bonus tracks). :yay:

The Grateful Dead Movie on Blu-ray for the first time, in a deluxe 2-disc version, with the feature film on Blu-ray and a DVD loaded with an extensive slate of bonus features five hours of content in all! Co-directed by Jerry Garcia, The Grateful Dead Movie was originally released in 1977, and captures performances from five October 1974 shows at San Francisco s Winterland Ballroom.

The film has been carefully transferred from the original 35mm film negative in High Definition and is presented in 1.78:1 widescreen aspect ratio. The audio options include a 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio presentation of the original theatrical audio mix, a DTS 5.1 audio mix, mixed from the master multitrack tapes, and a PCM 2.0 audio mix, also mixed from the master multitrack tapes.

Does anyone own this? If so, can you confirm the 2.0 audio bit rate? I have heard rumor it's 96/24, but would like to confirm before emptying the wallet!

I don't know what the 2.0 bit rate is but if it sounds as good as the DTS HD MA 5.1 track does it'll be worth it.

hwk, if you have it could you put it in your player, & select "2.0"? The on screen display should show the bit rate at that time.

Bought it at BB (I had a $5 off coupon, so it came it $14.99)

As Linda stated, there is a 96/24 2.0 audio option. 2 caveats though, one minor, one a bit more major:

1. The 2.0 mix while tonally nice is one of the least 3d sounding 96/24 mixes I've ever heard. I've found that usually the biggest benefit of hi rez audio is a sense of instruments & vocals sounding like they are spatially wide & deep, as opposed to kind of a flatness with cd (yeah, I know some folks are saying, "then get 5.1 you idiot!").

2. Disc 2 with lots of bonus music is a dvd & is in lossy Dolby only. That kinda sucks.

Nonetheless, for $15 I really can't bitch (well I can, but I shouldn't!).

"Then get 5.1 you idiot" will be a future forum blurb. :)

A fully three-dimensional soundstage in two channels isn't possible. At least four channels are needed to approximate how we hear. I'm not saying that two channels can't sound wonderful, but to expect that from every hi-rez recording will lead to a lot of disappointments. The 2.0 mix is an afterthought in any surround release.
