I really would have been interested in seeing this in person...rumored to have cost up to $400K. Interesting stuff...wonder if it will catch on to any degree.

Didn't they do this years ago at Live Earth in Japan with some weird female Japanese act? I think it was Genki Rockets or something like that.

Yes, there are several holographic teen pop stars in Japan. It's a thing. Similar technology to the Tupac thing.

I imagine the Beatles is only a matter of time, yes.

Commenting to NME, holographic projection firm Musion hinted that its creation could end up going around the world after making its debut in California on Sunday (April 15). This follows reports earlier today that Dre and Snoop are keen on the idea of a tour with the hologram.

Head of Music at Musion Sanj Surati said that although no firm plans are yet in place for a tour, the huge response to the hologram would make it difficult to ignore the option to use it again.

He commented:

Surati added the firm was "very proud" that the hip-hop heayweights had opted to use its technology during the show.

The hologram addressed the Coachella crowd and also performed '2 Of Americaz Most Wanted' as a duet with Snoop Dogg during the gig. Tupac's mother Afeni Shakur is reportedly "thrilled" by the digital resurrection of her son, who was shot dead in 1996.

The technology is sure to be misused and abused by all sorts of music industry charlatans, but imagine a day when Townshend and Daltrey can record a new album then send a very believable-looking young Who with all four original members on tour to promote it.

Once again the MPAA completely fails to get it. They're going around putting takedown notices on every upload of the Tupac video. I don't even LIKE Tupac and I've been showing people this video, with very positive response. Young fans have not seen Tupac and might be turned on to his music by this. Instead, they come in with their draconian 20th century mentality and take it down. :roll:
