Hmmm...always loved Japan but only slightly dipped into Sylvain's eclectic solo catalogue. Starnge how the title is 1982-2011 but the cover says 1981-2011.
Speaking of this, I now ask, what was the latest (and/or best) of the Japan catalogue on CD remastered? I'd love to start listening to them again.

The Virgin and BMG era material was mastered around 2003/4 and the three BMG era albums Adolescence Sex, Obscure Alternatives and Quiet Life are in a Sony/BMG Original Album Classics box available dirt cheap from Amazon UK. Gentlemen and Tin Drum are only available separately afaik. Exercising Ghosts was still available pre-remastered and the very useful Assemblage compilation with remixes was remastered.
I like the remastered Virgins.

I got a steal of a deal on the Japanese Singles 2-CD comp when Virgin went under. Compiles all 7" and 12" mixes of the early BMG recordings, some included more than once, due to different configurations. Handsome booklet too.

oh great... another 2CD set for the sake of ONE new track.
this shit makes me crazy.
the least they could have done was to include a few rare tracks
from efforts on other artists' discs and such.
OH!... and how 'bout that instrumental non-lp track "blue of noon"
from the "secrets of the beehive" sessions that's never seen the light
of day on cd. i'm frequently amazed at the lack of homework
and/or thought that goes into such compilations and/or remasters.

Yeah, I already have the 2-CD comp. from several years ago (which did have a lot of rarities on it) Everything and Nothing, and many of his solo albums, and a Japan comp. I won't get this.

the new track "where's your gravity" is the best thing he's done since Nine Horses.
not that that's saying much since he's not been all that prolific of late,
but i effing ADORE the Nine Horses material and i hope this new track is
indicative of his current musical direction.

now, if we can (yes, i'll say it again) get ALL the solo material onto cd.
i speak specifically of b-sides such as "blue of noon" from the
Secrets of the Beehive sessions.
