That first Aldo Nova album with "Fantasy" opened many a mix tape back in the day. The perfect song to start a tape. On one particular camping trip to Upstate NY, we pulled into the campsite late at about Midnight, quickly set up and I started blasting "Fantasy" on my meg-boombox that woke up the entire campsite.
We got alot of dirty looks the next day.

The guitar playing on both of these albums is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. The idea of Aldo trading off solos in each speaker was very cool and the tones he uses are so sweet they still sound fresh today. I love both albums and I knew these were coming out. I have the Legacy remaster of the debut and the Wounded Bird of Subject (which actually sounds great), so I have no real need for these (although having Subject remastered will be nice), but Rock Candy does such a killer job with the remastering, liner notes and packaging it's worth it. I saw Aldo Nova on the Subject tour opening for Rainbow in Philly in 1983 and he and his band were dynamite. Sadly, that was the last good album he would make. Subject is actually quite Proggy and uses a lot of synth technology and I really liked it. Aldo is easily one of the most underrated players out there, although his influence was quite obvious especially with Bon Jovi who basically stole his entire sound on the first few albums (he repayed his debt by having Nova play lead on the #1 hit Blaze Of Glory) and got Aldo's 1991 comeback album Blood On The Bricks released (he may have produced it I don't remember).

That was Jeff Beck on "Blaze of Glory."
Aldo plays guitar on that song too, but you're right the lead is Beck.

I missed the Legacy reissue of the first album. I love that album, but "Fantasy" is not what did it for me - it was "Foolin' Yourself". I adore those harmonies.
I just picked up a vinyl promo sampler from the 80s called "Ticket To Rock". There are two live tracks on it - Ozzy's "Mr. Crowley" from the EP, and Aldo's "Foolin' Yourself". Not bad for $5.
