Product Description
Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1983 album including four bonus tracks. Commercial success had finally arrived for the Tubes with the release of Completion Backward Principle. The rock radio airplay and Top 40 success generated by that release set the stage for a return to the studio with producer David Foster attempting to recapture the magic for Outside/Inside. The band did not disappoint as the album came screaming out of the gate with "She's A Beauty", the biggest hit the band would ever have. The single went Top 10 and was a #1 rock record so the band now had both sides of the FM/AM dial fully covered.

1. She's A Beauty
2. No Not Again
3. Out Of The Business
4. The Monkey Time - With Martha Davis
5. Glass House
6. Wild Women Of Wongo
7. Tip Of My Tongue
8. Fantastic Delusion
9. Drums
10. Theme Park
11. Outside Lookin' Inside

Bonus Tracks:
12. When You're Ready To Come
13. Keyboard Kids
14. Satellite
15. The Monkey Time

Iconoclassic Records is pleased to announce three new releases, due out in summer 2012. The acclaimed catalog specialist has worked closely with The Guess Who and The Tubes in the past, and those relationships yield fresh fruit with definitive edition remasters of classic titles from both artists. First up is The Tubes’ Outside Inside, the band’s most successful album, originally released in 1983 by Capitol Records. Commercial success had finally arrived for The Tubes with the release of 1981’s The Completion Backward Principle (previously celebrated with a definitive 30th Anniversary Reissue by Iconoclassic in 2011). The rock radio airplay and Top 40 success generated by that release set the stage for a return to the studio with producer David Foster attempting to recapture the magic for Outside Inside.

The Tubes did not disappoint as the album came screaming out of the gate with “She’s A Beauty,” the biggest hit the band would ever have. The single went Top 10 and was a #1 rock record, as well as an MTV smash. The funky follow-up singles “Tip Of My Tongue” (with Earth, Wind & Fire’s Maurice White) and “The Monkey Time” (written by Curtis Mayfield) also enjoyed chart success and the album featured those excellent album tracks that we had come to expect from The Tubes, several of which remain in their current set list to this day.

Outside Inside once again featured the original Tubes septet, led by inimitable Fee Waybill. During the David Foster era, Fee grew tremendously as a vocalist and writer, and his edgy, powerful vocals dominate the album, surrounded by backing vocals from Bobby Kimball (Toto), Bill Champlin (Chicago), Patti Austin, and a duet with Capitol label mate Martha Davis of The Motels on “The Monkey Time.” The album’s more commercial moments are balanced with tracks that allow the musicians to stretch out, often in the company of guests like Toto’s Steve Lukather, David Paich and Steve Porcaro, and a horn section led by Jerry Hey – with all concerned contributing to a mutant funk rock stew that could only come from The Tubes.

This expanded edition of the album includes all new mastering and a new essay by A. Scott Galloway based on fresh interviews with the band members. The release is expanded with four bonus tracks including single B-sides, single versions and the ultra rare Tubes version of “Satellite.”

I'm curious to see if they include both version of "The Monkey Time." The original version with Martha Davis is one of my all-time favorite cover songs, but Capitol replaced it with a different version (and another female singer whose name escapes me) on the first CD release.

I think the original was on the BGO cd in the UK.

I have the original version on the LP as well as the Capitol best-of CD. I can't remember how or where I heard the other version, but it didn't have the same vibe without Martha.

I believe that's Michele Gray (now Michele Rundgren).

Great news! There's been a bunch of activity in the Tubes back catalogue recently, between Iconoclassic, Cherry Red, and Real Gone... hell, maybe "Suffer for Sound" will get an official release...

That would be great. My copy of Suffer is not the best sounding disc in the world & could use an upgrade.

I'd also sure like to see a release of the Michael Cotton "Tubes Project" DVD documentary while I still have functioning eyes!

Bump: Added pre-order details to the first post. Could one of our Tubes experts confirm which songs are actually bonus tracks? Kym's post listed 3 bonus tracks, the Iconoclassic description mentions 5, and to me it looks like there are 4 (which is how I entered the track listing in the first post) ... which is correct?

Linda, the following is from Google & my memory. My Tubes collection is too large to check at the moment.

"When You're Ready To Come" appears to be the B-side of the She's A Beauty 45, & doesn't appear to have been previously released on cd.

"Keyboard Kids" Is only on on the Capitol best of

"Satellite" has previously only been released on cd on Sedated In The Eighties #4, which is an all b-sides compilation.

& "Monkey Time" is as discussed: 1 version with Michelle Gray, & 1 with Martha Davis.

I hope this is a monster remaster, because it looks like I only need 1 song: When You're Ready To Come.

Wish they'd hurry up & put "Out Of Control" from Heavenly Bodies on something! In the 2011 Completion thread Iconoclassic posted SOOC is a 1984 track, which means it SHOULD have been added to the Cherry Red Love Bomb; but it wasn't. It's actually better than anything on Love Bomb, which is by far the original band's worst album.

Thank you, Geff. I've changed the description in the first post to read "four bonus tracks".
