Besotted by the British Invasion, Cheap Trick took the music of their UK heroes and transformed it into something uniquely American. While lead guitarist Rick Nielsen has humorously described the band as “four great guys with three great chords,” they are much more than that. From their hometown of Rockford, Illinois, Cheap Trick has taken their inventive, high-energy brand of rock to every corner of the globe, selling over 20 million albums and amassing devotees from Kurt Cobain to Homer Simpson. The Complete Epic Albums Collection gathers their seminal recordings in one essential, exhaustive package. After all, songs like “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender,” “The Flame” and “Dream Police” don’t just live on the radio—they live inside of your head as well.

Albums Included:
1. Cheap Trick
2. In Color
3. Heaven Tonight
4. At Budokan: The Complete Concert (2 CDs)
5. Dream Police

I hope they sell them separately as I have the first 7 remasters and am happy with the quality of those. Odd that the version of Next Position Please that was released isn't considered authorized.

I doubt we'll ever see these remasters released separately (except as downloads), and I'm actually shocked we're getting them at all. I've been reading about how physical product only has about 3-5 years left and these complete collections are probably the last chance to ever get some of these CDs outside of Japan. NPP was actually expanded and remastered years ago during the second wave of the reissue campaign, but they made it a download only and halted the remaster series altogether. Anyway, the original release of NPP was not entirely the album the band intended. Here's the backstory:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next_Position_Please

The original vinyl record included 12 tracks. "You Talk Too Much" and "Don't Make Our Love a Crime" appeared as bonus tracks on the cassette version and later on the CD. The record was originally supposed to include both of these tracks along with two others called "Twisted Heart" and "Don't Hit Me With Love," but Cheap Trick's label at the time, Epic Records, forced the band to include a cover of The Motors' "Dancing the Night Away" and the outtake "You Say Jump" in their place. Rundgren refused to produce "Dancing the Night Away," so the track ended up being produced by the band with Ian Taylor, who had engineered the band's previous album , One on One. "Twisted Heart" eventually surfaced on the box set Sex, America, Cheap Trick.

Is the Japanese market for CD's better than the American market? I don't really mean their appetite for music; I just wonder if CD sales (vs. downloads) haven't fallen off a cliff over there as they have here. If the CD market is steadier in Japan, that might be the future oasis in the desert for us in terms of CD availability.

I take it that there are no inner-sleeves or extra credit/photo/lyric booklets included in this set. Just discs, cardboard jackets and a clamshell box?

Actually, there is a booklet pictured in the photo on the above Popmarket link. Same style as the Billy Joel box, looks like.

So, if I understand this right, this woule be all the previous remasters w/ bonus tracks (which I have) in cardboard sleeves, and all the albums that were not previously remastered now done so, also in cardboard sleeves but with no bonus tracks?
With Anesini involved, I almost have to get this and there are quite a few albums that are new here to the remastering. I am very glad I never bothered with that Friday 2fer of One On One/Next Position Please, but this is still $100 and I've heard mixed things about Popmarket.
Are you happy with this release?

It's nice to finally have all of the Epic albums remastered. I hadn't listened to some of those albums in years due to subpar sound quality, and in some cases subpar songs. Hell, I hadn't listened to Lap of Luxury and Busted in 20 years. They're musically so-so, but sound great now, as do the other remasters. Everything thru All Shook Up (1980) had already been remastered, but one thing different is they broke out the four songs from the Found All the Parts EP into its own release. Previously on CD they were bundled as bonus tracks on All Shook Up (Everything Works if You Let It remains as the sole bonus track now). There are no bonus tracks on the new remasters with the technical exception of Next Position Please, which is expanded to 16 songs and adds the songs the band were forced to remove by the label back in the day (two of those tracks were cassette only at the time). Those songs are now blended into the album sequence. This set is packaged like all of the other CBS/Columbia/Epic Complete Album Collections: CD's in mini-album paper-sleeve replicas, w/ gatefolds where appropriate. No inner sleeves or lyrics. The booklet contains all of the album and song credits, broken out by release, and some of the remaining artwork from the original inner sleeves.

Old Remasters:

Cheap Trick
In Color
Heaven Tonight
At Budokan: The Complete Concert (2 CD)
All Shook Up
Found All the Parts EP

New Remasteres:

One on One
Next Position Please - The Authorized Version
Standing on the Edge
The Doctor
Lap of Luxury
Busted

I decided to get this.....came yesterday.....PopMarket shipping is pretty fast.

The box setup is nice....don't like the cardboard casess, but I bought Japanese plastic CD sleeves, and they fit into the cardboard not perfectly, but well enough.

I bought it to finally hear the later albums....I already had all of the 2006 remasters, and aside from One To One, due to lost interest at the time, never ended up hearing any of their albums.......until The Latest (which I like). I decided to go backwards and started listening with Busted....mastering sounds great, but the album isn't very good. AllMusicGuide sort of warns that The Doctor will be even worse. I'm listening to Lap Of Luxury right now and it's pretty good....(better than Busted).

I know it's titled "Complete Albums," but I wish it could have found room for their version of Magical Mystery Tour and other officially released stray tracks.

Okay "Busted" is so-so, but their cover of Roy Wood's "Rock n' Roll Tonight" on that album is killer IMO. Probably in my top 5 Cheap Trick songs ever.

I looked at the thread on the Cheap Trick message board......apparently, the remasters of the 80's albums aren't as good as Japanses versions that are already out there. I'm happy enough with them, since I'll keep mostly listening through All Shook Up/Found All The Parts.

Love the box, the remastering of "Next Position Please" is my fave so far of the additional remasters.

Anesini's Aerosmith remasters sound great. Seriously. There's no need to ever redo them.

I realize it is all subjective, and by all means whatever floats your boat. But I can pick out his work because on my system it tends to sound cold and sterile, even making my ears feel uncomfortable after a bit. His work on the Cheap Trick S/T CD is no exception to what I hear from him, and that's why I'm disappointed they let him do more. Regarding the Aerosmith releases, I tracked down the Japanese release first and second pressings on CD and thought they really sounded great! :ohyes:

I just listened to The Doctor yesterday. I'm adding it to my list of albums that is unfairly maligned by fans, right after the Cars' Door To Door.

For a disappointing Cheap Trick record, try Special One. Not so special, IMHO. Their two more recent albums, on the other hand, are really good.
