Raise your hand if you're a part of the Legacy Generation of DC Comics. If you started reading DC (and became a fan) during the time of...

Tim Drake as Robin
Wally West as the Flash
Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern
Connor Hawke as Green Arrow
Peter David's Supergirl
Jack Knight as Starman (will also accept "Will Payton")
Dawn Granger as Dove

Other signs that you're a part of this generation is if you think of...

Dick Grayson as Nightwing
Barbara Gordon as Oracle
Roy Harper as Arsenal
Cyborg, Starfire, and Raven before you think of Aqualad, Wonder Girl, and Speedy when you hear "Teen Titans"

Further signs include being a fan of...

The Giffen/DeMatties/Maguire Justice League
Ray Terrill as the Ray
Bart Allen as Impluse
Grant Emerson/Damage

I was ten years old when Cyborg, Starfire and Raven first appeared in 1980, so they are my team. The rest of your list, not so much.

That's pretty much me, although I hated Connor Hawke and still do. I've grown over time to not care much for Kyle Rayner as well, but the rest, yeah. Couldn't care less about the Ray, Damage, Arsenal, Dove, then or now; no opinion.

That said, I would have no problem with a de-aging/revamp to get rid of some extraneous legacy characters and streamline things a bit. No need for Connor, Kyle, or Wally (as Flash) when the originals are back (and I have no idea if this has already been done;maybe it has! ). I think Nightwing is unique enough that he should stay as that hero, and Tim should stay as Robin.

I certainly fall into this group. I didn't start reading DC till my late teens with Zero Hour. But I liked it. So ya, those are my characters.

I've never cared for Tim Drake or Jason Todd. Oddly enough ....I like Damien, but only when he's partnered with Dick Grayson.(DC missed an opportunity to recreate Nightwing and Flamebird using these characters :) )

I guess I'm not that far into it because I'm not a fan of any of these.

Definitely in that group. I started my DC years with Man of Steel and went from there. I pretty much witnessed all of the legacy characters take their places except for Nightwing and Wally. I didn't like Kyle, because I always associated him with the gimmick tha was death of superman.

I mostly started reading in the last decade, so I would definitely say I am part of this group.

That would be me as well. But I tend to pick and choose.

The Giffen/DeMatteis League is not *my* JL, and while I started reading GL with Kyle, Hal towers about him. The same with Connor.

I did not really start reading comics untill just after crisis.

But I still think of pre crisis as my dc, I was given a few hundred comics (from the 60's to the 80's) so most of my dc/marvel knowledge was silver/bronze age.

Lsh has been a favourite of mine for years, so the changes from crisis and zero hour really annoyed me.

BUt i do tend to find stuff i like in all generations, so there is a lot of stuff in the 90's that I like (starman, baxter legion etc)

That's an alternate universe to mine. Glad someone enjoyed those stories though.

Oh yeah, Tim Drake is definitely my Robin.

The one I think I miss most is Connor Hawke.

He was such an interesting character, and Dixon really developed him.

Green Arrow is horrid, and has been for a few years now, just relaunch after relaunch to try and find something that works. Why not give Connor another chance?

He doesn't need to be de-aged or radically changed. He's also instantly got more personal issues than Oliver, which adds to his appeal, as you don't have to force anything.

I still love the last Connor Hawke miniseries we got, with Cliff Chiang's art.

Good read. Shame nothing from it stuck.

Even though I started reading comics around '68 or '70, I've really come to respect the multi-tiered generational approach to DC. Over the years, it's really fleshed out the characters and I think for the most part, added another nice dimension to the DCU. Dick Grayson became one of my favorite characters during the Wolfman/Perez Titans era and when he graduated to Nightwing and came into the capable hands of Dixon, he was elevated even more to being one of the greatest characters around. Dixon almost single handedly ushered in the greatest incarnation of the Batman family ever. His Nightwing was excellent but so was his Tim Drake Robin. No one wrote him better, understood him better. He made me a huge fan of Oracle and the Birds of Prey and Connor Hawke was and is my preferred version of Green Arrow. He would have been around for years to come as the start of GA if not for Kevin Smith stepping in...and then blowing two years of delays before bringing back a lame GA, much like his lame Daredevil.

Wally West was the first interesting Flash for me because Barry had to make due with being created during the bland era for DC where everything was vanilla and Captain White bread. When Wally took over during the DC resurgence in the '80's, I had a Flash I could enjoy. I liked Kyle Rayner as GL for many of the same reasons. Hal continues to be a bit of an idiot in a lot of ways where as Kyle was relatable and it gave the book a breath of fresh air. I'm frankly sorry that Barry, Hal and Ollie came back. They really didn't need them back. They went out like heroes, they should have stayed out like heroes.

DC has a great lock on the generational aspect much like they've got a great lock on animated adventures, while Marvel has a real tough time with both concepts.

I think I was probably equally influenced by cartoons and television as I was by comic books.

I agree with Rick... also, I think Chuck Dixon deserves more high profile work.

Agreed - Dixon is one of my favorite batman writers - he helped launch Nightwing, Robin and BOP (and Connor Hawke as GA) in solo series to great success. Fun action packed stories with a lot of heart and humor.

I think he's blacklisted at DC?

He's been doing work for IDW, mainly GIJOE, with 2 Transformers miniseries.

Dixon is very underrated. Based on the books listed above, I'd definitely put him just above the Busiek/Waid/David range of writers. Simone gets a ton of recognition for Birds of Prey, but it's Dixon that came up with the concept and made it work to begin with.
