Chris Cornell Quits Audioslave

"I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors."
Friday, February 16, 2007

Rocker Chris Cornell has quit Audioslave, citing "irresolvable personality conflicts" and "musical differences" for his decision.

The former Soundgarden frontman joined former Rage Against the Machine band members Tom Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford to form Audioslave in 2001.

After a brief split the following year, the group released the hit single "Cochise" and a self-titled debut.

The group followed that hit album by debuting the follow-up 'Out of Exile' at number one on the charts in 2005 and capitalized on their success by performing a historic show in Havana, Cuba, which was filmed for DVD release 'Live in Cuba.'

Audioslave released their third album, 'Revelations,' last September, while Cornell went solo to record the Bond theme "You Know My Name" for 'Casino Royale' and an album.

The group's future appeared shaky at the beginning of 2007 when Morello, Wilk and Commerford announced they'd be reforming Rage Against The Machine with former singer Zach de la Rocha for the upcoming Coachella Music & Arts Festival in California.

And, in a statement released Thursday, announcing the May '07 release of Cornell's 13th career album 'Carry On,' the rock star wrote, "Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave.

"I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors."

They made some killer tunes, but I know that Cornell will be able to keep doing that with another band, as long as it doesn't sound like the Bond theme. :P

I really liked the first 2 Audioslave albums and I saw them live in 2005 and they were amazing. But the new album stinks and there was very little promotion surrounding it. It was obvious something was wrong for a while.
I'd like to see them carry on with a new singer rather than RATM who I don't care for, but whatever Tom Morello does is worth hearing because he is one talented dude.
So is Cornell.

I loved the first Audioslave, and a song or two off the second one, but could never get into the rest. Last I heard they were getting along great. Hmm.

The reunion of Rage outweighs the demise of Audioslave...

I think the reunion of Rage is a one-shot deal (or so they say).
I would prefer a Soundgarden reunion.

Soundgarden - the best metal slash grunge slash psychedelic rock band ever. They were truly skilled at what they did. And they were a whole lot more experienced than their compatriots.

Me three...hopefully it will come to pass. Incidently, I enjoyed Audioslave's last album.......it was nice to not have one song ruined with Morello's scratchy/screechy guitar thing.

Audioslave lasted two albums longer than I figured they would, but I enjoyed their work.

Cornell should just go solo again and pull in musicians to support him as such.
