Product Description
Originally released in 1986, The Big Heat is former Wall Of Voodoo leader Stan Ridgway's first solo album. Appropriately named after the 1953 film noir of the same name, The Big Heat is full of tragic, noir themed tales of love and death. Though heavily reliant on synths and drum machines, the album retains a organic and cinematic feel to it. Featuring help from members of Gang of Four, The Screamers, Oingo Boingo, as well as session men who played with the likes of Zappa and Beefheart, The Big Heat is a classic piece of 80s alternative from one of the era's most distinctive voices. Reissued on CD with 4 bonus tracks.

1. The Big Heat
2. Pick It Up (And Put It In Your Pocket)
3. Can't Stop The Show
4. Pile Driver
5. Walkin' Home Alone
6. Drive She Said
7. Salesman
8. Twisted
9. Camouflage
10. Rio Greyhound (Instrumental)

Bonus Tracks:
11. Stormy Side Of Town
12. Foggy River
13. End Of The Line
14. Nadine

Hmmm... This sounds intriguing. The only thing I've ever heard from him is Mosquitos which I like quite a lot. I just looked him up on All Music. He has been quite prolific. Does anybody know this album? What do you think?

I enjoyed this record when it came out. I haven't listened to it in years, but I'm happy to see it coming out again.

This album is excellent...one of his best. A really good introduction to Stan Ridgway though is the compilation, Songs That Made This Country Great. It's a great place to start!

I really like the Water reissue label. They put out a really eclectic group of albums, including Soft Machine and Tim Hardin. Their stuff always sounds good and looks good.

I only have the Songs That Made This Country Great compilation but one of my favorite things on it is the title track from The Big Heat, so this reissue is on my radar.

In my circle of friends, the release of his debut solo LP was a very big deal. Still sounds great today, but I don't understand this new reissue. The 1993 reissue - part of the "I.R.S. Vintage Years" series - is a decent remaster with SIX bonus tracks, whereas the new Water edition only has four. Unless it's been OOP...

Yes, it's out of print and currently commanding collectible prices:

The 2012 Water edition upthread is newly remastered and has the same four studio bonus tracks as the 1993 version, but not the two live bonus tracks.
