From Bowie's FB page:
"REMASTERED ZIGGY 40TH VINYL/CD/DVD DUE IN JUNE
I'd come on like a regular superstar...
EMI are excited to announce the release of a 40th anniversary edition of David Bowie’s truly groundbreaking and hugely influential album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars.
Due on June 4th (June 5th U.S.) – to mark the 40th anniversary of Ziggy, the formats will include the following...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CD:
A new 2012 remaster of the original album. Digitally remastered by Ray Staff, original mastering engineer for Ziggy at Trident Studios, and Ken Scott – original co-producer.
LP: A new 2012 remaster of the original album on heavyweight 180g vinyl. Digitally remastered by Ray Staff.
DVD: 2012 remaster (96/24 PCM stereo) Digitally remastered by Ray Staff.
Ken Scott 2003 5.1 mixes (DTS 48/24 & Dolby Digital) and stereo fold downs (48/24 PCM) – original album plus the following 5.1 previously unreleased bonus tracks:
Moonage Daydream (instrumental) The Supermen Velvet Goldmine Sweet Head
There will also be a digital download of the new 2012 remaster.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is great news for those of you that have been after a copy of the 2003 Ziggy SACD which featured the 5.1 mixes, as you would be hard-pushed to get change from sixty quid for a copy these days. Somebody is even asking for £175 for a copy on a popular marketplace site right now!
Stay tuned for more details and related news" Share this post:

"Ken Scott 2003 5.1 mixes (DTS 48/24 & Dolby Digital)"....are the surround mixes in higher rez on the 2003 SACD?

I never got the last remaster special edition, but wasn't that butchered and actually reversed guitar parts and such? I'd certainly be in for this and have been waiting for another revamp to correct the last mess (if that was accurate). Also, are there even any bonus tracks for the CD release?

With Ray Staff involved I have this feeling it'll be good and as much as I love my RCA cd even I will give it a try as the main album for Station To Station was better. I just might get the vinyl too! Ray's vinyl mastering was always great and he cuts at their mastering faculty in London, England.

Here is the Wiki on Ziggy:
Compact disc releases: Ziggy Stardust was first released in November 1984 on compact disc by RCA. The digital master recording was made from the equalised master tapes used for the LP release.
1990 Rykodisc/EMI Dr. Toby Mountain at Northeastern Digital Recording|Northeastern Digital, Southborough, Massachusetts,[34] remastered Ziggy from the original master tapes for Rykodisc, who released it with five bonus tracks: 12."John, I'm Only Dancing" (previously unreleased mix) – 2:43 13."Velvet Goldmine" (single B-side from the 1975 RCA re-release of "Space Oddity; original recording from the The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars sessions, 1971) – 3:09 14."Sweet Head" (previously unreleased outtake) – 4:14 15."Ziggy Stardust" (demo) – 3:35 16."Lady Stardust" (demo) – 3:35 1999 EMI/Virgin
The album was remastered by Peter Mew at Abbey Road Studios without bonus material, with the same track listing as the 1984 CD release. 2002 EMI/Virgin In 2002, a 2-disc version was released by EMI/Virgin. The first in a series of 30th Anniversary 2CD Editions, this release included a newly-remastered version as its first CD. The remaster on this edition reverses the left and right stereo channels on the first disc and many of the songs have been edited. Among other things, the three-note bridge between "Ziggy Stardust" and "Suffragette City", and the count-in to "Hang on to Yourself" are missing. The second disc contains twelve tracks, most of which had been previously released on CD as bonus tracks of the 1990–92 reissues. "Sweet Head" is the same version as on the 1990 reissue, but with extended studio banter in the beginning. The new mix of "Moonage Daydream" was originally done for a 1998 Dunlop television commercial. The bonus tracks: 1."Moonage Daydream" (Arnold Corns version) – 3:53 2."Hang on to Yourself" (Arnold Corns version) – 2:55 3."Lady Stardust" (demo) – 3:34 4."Ziggy Stardust" (demo) – 3:38 5."John, I'm Only Dancing" – 2:49 6."Velvet Goldmine" – 3:14 7."Holy Holy" (1972 re-recording) – 2:26 8."Amsterdam" (Jacques Brel, Mort Shuman) – 3:25 9."The Supermen" (alternate version, recorded for the Glastonbury Fayre in 1971, originally released on Glastonbury Fayre Revelations – A Musical Anthology, 1972[36] and on CD on 1990's Rykodisc/EMI Hunky Dory) – 2:41 10."Round and Round" (Berry) – 2:44 11."Sweet Head" – 4:53 12."Moonage Daydream" (new mix) – 4:47 At the same time, a hybrid SACD version was released, which includes high resolution stereo and 5.1 mixes.

I'm in. Totally depends on reviews of the mastering & the pricing. I own real copies of the SACD (which like all 3 of the EMI Bowie SACD's is bright; though Let's Dance seems to be the worst offender. LD is the 2nd worst SACD I've ever heard) & the 30th. If the reviews say they finally got it right sound wise, &/or if the cd/dvd combo can be found for under $20 I'm in. Kind of sad when King Crimson is offering hi res as part of their reissues for under $20, & to get the hi res Bowie STS today's price is $87. I just read a couple reviews on Amazon of the S2S deluxe; & while I don't care about 5.1, there are comments that the 5.1 is brick walled & sounds awful. If the Ziggy 96/24 sounds better than the SACD & if people still pay big $'s for the SACD, I'd be very happy! Too bad the bonus tracks from the 30th aren't going to be on here. I will need to keep that either way.

I'm embarrassed to admit as a huge Bowie fan & collector I wasn't aware of the edits until today. I must have played the cd as background (something I frequently do with cd's).

It seems the only way to get the DVD is by getting it with the bloody vinyl. Will they ever learn ?

I ordered it, but I am dead set against having to own a vinyl pressing rather than a CD.
My LP will end up on eBay

Best Buy wants $44 USD for the Vinyl/DVD. I'm really wishing I would have pre-ordered from Amazon.UK when it was only 12 pounds. BB is going to be at $9.99 on the cd, but while I do wish the cd was included in the dvd package; I can live with just my 35th anniversary set + the hi res versions. My interest here is I suspect this will be the best of the 3 known hi res editions.
I was thinking of putting my EMI Netherlands SACD up on ebay, but a whole bunch of people beat me to it, & while I'll likely no longer need it, I don't want to give it away!
This one is going to require some price shopping.

If anyone wants to, I'd seriously consider it as long as the dvd includes all associated packaging. The SACD is still selling (that what people have paid in the past 2 weeks, not asking prices like on Amazon) used on ebay for $38-$64.
I am a little afraid having read no reviews other than from the mastering engineer, but the SACD is a bit bright/compressed for my liking.

Amazon.UK is already letting 3rd parties list & it is coming down a little. Sounds like the strategy is indeed going to be wait until Tuesday as Amazon USA is NOT letting 3rd parties list it yet.
One person on Amazon UK said he preferred the SACD over the DTS, but he didn't comment on the PCM.
