No tracklisting yet, but another EJ comp is upon us. From musictap.net:

Island Records will release Rocket Man: Number Ones, a collection of Elton John hits in both a CD and a CD/DVD Limited Edition on March 27.

I remember there was a link a couple of months ago for fans to vote on the track list for this. Back then it didn't have "Number Ones" in the title. Maybe they went strictly in that direction instead of the fan vote.

I count maybe 9 or 10 #1 pop hits for Elton. Impressive indeed, but makes for a slim CD line-up, unless it includes #1 on other charts (AC) and/or other countries ("Sacrifice" was #1 in the UK).

Seems like a new industry trend. Who else has had a #1's compilation?

Beatles
Elvis
Bee Gees
Mariah Carey
Michael Jackson
Destiny's Child

Do the Stones have enough #1s to make such a compilation?

I'm going to have to see what the DVD content is for me to pick this up. If it has anything vintage, then I'll put in for it. It sounds like we should get a hold of Crazy Water to see if he knows anything about it.
Off the top of my head, I don't know if the Stones have enough to make a 1's comp. but if it had any of the old stuff from when we used to see them on television back in the '60s and the '70s, I'd get it. I'd rather see a separate DVD made for something such as that.

The Stones had eight #1 pop singles in the US, plus another four in the UK. If a couple of others reached #1 on the rock tracks chart, they could fudge enough for such a compilation. I'd buy it!

I'd prefer if they reissued Greatest Hits vols. 1 and 2, will have to hunt for those on the second-hand market.

From the British edition, ROCKET MAN - DEFINITIVE HITS,
the track lineup. Don't know how "definitive" this is, or the
origin of the live footage...

CD
1. Bennie And The Jets - Live
2. Philadelphia Freedom - Album Version
3. Daniel - Album Version
4. Rocket Man (I Think It's Going To Be A Long Long Time)
5. I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues - Album Version
6. Tiny Dancer - Album Version
7. Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me
8. I Want Love
9. Candle In The Wind - Album Version
10. The Bitch Is Back
11. I'm Still Standing - Album Version
12. Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)
13. Your Song - 1996 Album Version
14. Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word - Album Version
15. Can You Feel The Love Tonight - 1996 LP
16. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
17. Tinderbox
18. Are You Ready For Love - '79 version radio edit

DVD
1. Bennie And The Jets - Live
2. Rocket Man - Live
3. Candle In The Wind - Live
4. Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting) - Live
5. Your Song - Live
6. Your Song Elton In Four Decades - Promo - Stereo
7. I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues - Elton In Four Decades - Promo - Stereo

I was hoping the DVD would be DVD-A versions of the CD's songs. Guess I'll hope this British issue doesn't come across the pond..

Your Stones #1 Album Rock Tracks would be:

Start Me Up-13 weeks (!!!), 1981
Mixed Emotions-5 weeks, 1989
Rock And A Hard Place-5 weeks, 1989
Almost Hear You Sigh- week, 1990 (my favorite Stones song-beautiful!)
Highwire-3 weeks, 1991

oh so close...these were #2's

Hang Fire-3 weeks, 1981
Undercover Of The Night-1 week, 1983
Harlem Shuffle-3 weeks, 1986
Love Is Strong-5 weeks, 1994
You Got Me Rocking-1 week, 1994

If a comp called #1's and #2's came out, a killer Stones comp could be compiled with both singles and radio tracks, but I doubt it will ever happen!

What? As far as I know, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" was a no. 1 in the UK, and it remains my all-time favorite from Elton to this day!

Those "Elton in Four Decades" sound suspiciously like the ones that were on the "Dreamticket" DVD. And what's with the Your Song 1996 "Album Version? He still has tons of stuff in the vault, and they put out this? Sounds like caontractual obligation to me. Maybe they gave him his wish and let him out of his contract...

Wouldn't it be better to just buy this Greatest Hits collection that I think is still very available?

I couldn't be any less interested in this release if I tried. It sounds like someone told whoever put this thing together that the Beatles and Elvis did it, so why not Elton? YAWN!
