WOW! I owe you a Big Thank You Jay.

I saw this used afew years back and kicked myself for not getting this (and it was much more than what we see posted at Newbury). This box has alot if rare stuff if my Memory serves me right so this will go along great with many other titles I have. My order is in!

The last year or two, us Hollies fans are all in our glory with excellent comps and the great DVD comp released last year. And we still have the BBC stuff to look forward too.

I ordered one too.....(if there's more than 1 available). Kind of suspicious if it's a boot considering the Newbury price is so cheap compared to other 3rd party sellers.

Not to worry Charles. The owners of Newbury are straight up guys (I believe WalterP can atest to this). As well as I scored the killer Electra deluxe boxset for a steal about 4 years ago from them and it was everything as advertised.

Glad to help, Rick. At least some of my fellow ICErs are getting in on the deal. I am guessing that it will have a small drill hole through the UPC like the copy I got on eBay.

Thanks! I ordered one through this link. Amazon actually had this around $29 themselves a few months ago and I forgot about it, then it starting going for crazy OOP prices.
As for the live cuts-isn't it just the Disc 6 tracks that are live, including a remastered live album from the late 70's?
This looks like a great collection of classics (some missing), rarities, alt takes and single only tracks from various countries.

My pleasure, Pete. It appears that only a few essential cuts are truly missing in their original form ("Bus Stop", "Stop! Stop! Stop!" and "Carrie Anne" being the most egregious examples, only appearing on Disc 6 in live versions from 1976).

Thanks much for the heads up.
Sadly 25 bucks is about all this abomination is worth. Horrid sound quality and an insanity that only the Brits seemed to adopt of "over conceptualizing" box sets.

Lets do a 6-CD career spanning box and leave off the big hits because surely everyone's got those already! "

Mine came in already but I haven't opened it yet. Can anyone tell me why this is an "abomination"? I understand a few classic tracks are absent in tier original studio form (but I've got them like anyone else already). Is the sound that terrible?
It reall seems to hit all points of their career (aside from the 1983 reunion) and has a lot of things I've never heard. I'm a fan, not a massive one, but a pretty big one, and this is something I always wanted to get.
Now I'm wondering if I've got something I should have. It's EMI after all, so I'm not worried about the sound quality, although the "horrid" comment above doesn't sound good.
But can anyone who is a fan and owns this tell me why some people trash it so much?
Thanks.

Strange song selection and noise reduction issues are usually the factors cited by people who don't like this box set.

If you're looking for an extended greatest hits, this isn't it. It's missing the studio versions of too many Hollies hits, and some key tracks aren't there at all ("Look Through Any Window" and of course "Tell Me To My Face" for Geff). But if you already have a best-of, this box is a very good supplement. And at this price, anybody who even mildly likes The Hollies should go ahead and get one.

The NR is done in EMI's house style at the time, similar to how The Move's Message From The Country remaster sounded. I personally liked this approach. (For the Move album, it resulted in something very close to how I remember the original vinyl sounding.) The individual remasters of the early Hollies albums suffer from too much hiss and "scratchiness" around the edges.

Only waveforms can really settle this debate! :)

Linda:
Thanks-pretty much what I figured as for the track selection. It is odd that so many classic 60's singles are absent, but I already have the excellent 2CD best of from 2003, so I'm OK with it despite how weird it is.
As for the remastering, I'll hear it for myself and go from there.
But there's so many rare tracks from all eras, that this was a must for me at this price. I haven't opened it yet, but I hope the bookelt is nice too.
I really want to step up on the remasters from the late 60's-late 70's EMI did, but I'm still waiting for some of those albums to be legit remastered (at least I think I am unless I missed a few).

i highly recommend thew 6 CD set called "clarke - hicks - nash years"

there is a used one on amazon right now for $16.94.

it has every song they did together (except the reunion, which was terrible IMHO anyway as nash did not sing lead on even one single song :()

Pete,

The booklet is quite nice. 17,500 page essay from Peter Doggett, lots of great photos, nice discography with numerous photos, etc.

I opened it and you are indeed correct. And I meant booklet not bookelt, though that was nice too!
I listened to Disc 1 and have no complaints so far, but it does feel strange having that whole disc not include any of the classics. Aside from that I'm looking forward to the rest-I very much like everything they did from 1967-80.

That would be impressive -- that will probably be the length of Johnny Rogan's next Byrds book. Should have been "words" rather than "pages".

Just received my shipping notice. Should be available for next weekends listening.

Rick A.

PS This morning I find the boxset awaiting at my door, on a Sunday. I have noticed their are now independents delivering Amazon boxes. I don't know if they are postal contractors or what but you want to talk about a surprise. I will be playing this this Sunday as I do my W/E "chores".

Also, someone asked I believe were these cutouts. There was a very small hole in the back bottom right where the barcode is. You just about notice it.
