Eric Powell stands poised to tackle an icon, and the timing couldn’t be better.

The man best known for his creator-owned book The Goon has been pegged to pencil a three-issue Action Comics arc beginning in issue #854 that will focus on the Bizarro World discovered in Action Comics Annual #10.

That's one way of looking at it. Valid, very valid.

Nice to know Powell will likely be getting a fat pay cheque for this. Much deserved. Those Goon trades will probably sell a few more units too.

Sweet, but like Mike Allred taking on mainstream work and leaving Madman, Atomics, and his other cool creations by the wayside, I'll be disappointed to not get my Goon.

Exactly. Loved Allred's indy stuff. Madman obviously had so much more to go, so many plans in place. Probably never know.

I wouldn't be surprised if a three issue stint on Action comics wouldn't pay for twice that many Goon comics for Powell.

I'm sure he'll do very well out of it and God bless him. I hope it's the runaway bestseller of the new millennium.

Well, he's back on Madman now, so that's good.

DC gets an excellent and appropriate creator for its Bizarro arc.
Eric Powell's profile is raised significantly, and his work will be exposed to new readers (some of whom will be inspired to pickl up the Goon.) Plus, he gets a relatively high paying job, for a storyline which will certainly be reprinted, ensuring more royalties for Powell.
So everyone wins.

My only problem is that when the arc's over the much hyped Donner/Johns team will have only done six issues out of the 16 since "Up, Up, and Away" ended.

I'm wondering if Powell was was hired was so DC could get a seven issue TPB of the Action Comics stories not by Johns/ Donner (after their arc began.)

No, I'm serious! I met Powell a couple years ago at MOC. I wish him nothing but the best.

Hiya James, that's cool! I read it like.. "I sincerely wish him the best blah blah blah, BUT I WANT MY GOON!!!".

Eric's a really nice guy. And he's ahead of the game! My goal is to write for Marvel or DC at some point. Probably not Superman, though.
