Great News on Billboard:

Norah Jones has teamed up with super-producer Danger Mouse for the official follow-up to 2009's "The Fall." "Little Broken Hearts," the singer-songwriter's fifth full-length, will be released this spring on Blue Note/EMI.

Jones and Danger Mouse (real name: Brian Burton) recorded the album at Burton's Los Angeles studio last fall after Jones contributed vocals to Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi's "Rome" project last year. "Little Broken Hearts" was entirely produced by Danger Mouse and co-written by Jones and Danger Mouse, and the pair also handled the majority of the instrumentals.

According to a press release, Jones plans to tour "extensively" in 2012, and the singer-songwriter has already announced a pair of dates: June 29 at the Kodak Hall at Eastman Theater in Rochester, N.Y., and Aug. 10 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Jones' last full tour came in 2010, when she supported "The Fall" with a 74-date world trek.

This year also marks the 10th anniversary of Jones' debut, "Come Away With Me," which won the Album of the Year trophy at the 2003 Grammys and has sold 10.8 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In 2010, the singer released "...Featuring," a compilation album that featured collaborations with the Foo Fighters, Ryan Adams and Q-Tip, among others. Meanwhile, Danger Mouse recently provided production for the Black Keys' latest, "El Camino," which sat at No. 3 on last week's Billboard 200 albums chart.

Norah Jones is set to release a new album this spring entitled Little Broken Hearts (Blue Note/EMI), a collaboration with the producer and musician Danger Mouse. The two first worked together when Danger Mouse called upon Jones to contribute vocals to his acclaimed 2011 album ROME, and their connection proved deep enough that they decided to collaborate on Jones’ fifth studio album. Little Broken Hearts, which features original songs co-written by Jones and Danger Mouse, is the fascinating next step in the artistic evolution of one of the most intriguing singers to have emerged in the past decade. Together they have married their highly personal styles to create an entirely new sound.

It was that singular voice that caught the attention of Danger Mouse as he began to conceptualize ROME, his homage to classic Italian film score music. He already had Jack White in mind for the male role, and he and his collaborator Daniele Luppi realized that Norah’s voice would give the project the perfect balance it needed. Jones contributed three standout songs to ROME (check out a stripped-down live acoustic version of “Black” on RollingStone.com) and around the same time she and Danger Mouse began working on some of the material that would eventually become Little Broken Hearts.

The duo reconvened in Danger Mouse’s Los Angeles studio this past fall to finish what they had begun. The songs were all built from the ground up in the studio, with Jones and Danger Mouse sharing all the songwriting credits and performing the majority of the instrumental parts; Jones on piano, keyboards, bass, and guitar, and Danger Mouse contributing drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and string arrangements.

Target and Norah Jones are teaming up for a deluxe edition of Jones' new album Little Broken Hearts, featuring three exclusive bonus tracks. The set is due May 1 and will have a 6-month exclusive window on new songs "I Don't Wanna Hear Another Sound," "Killing Time" and "Out On The Road (Mondo Version)."

This is Target's second pairing with Jones. The retailer released a deluxe edition of Jones' last album The Fall in 2009 with exclusive content. That set has sold 850,000 copies since its release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Anticipation for Little Broken Hearts also helped spike sales for her 10 million-selling 2002 set Come Away With Me last week, re-entering the Billboard 200 at No. 190. That album's sales coupled with 2004's Feels Like Home and 2007's Not Too Late made Jones Billboard's Top Jazz Artist of 2000-2009.

Jones debuted Hearts in full last month at South by Southwest to a packed showcase at La Zona Rosa. The Danger Mouse-produced album showcases a slightly darker, more rock-tinged sound for Jones, and details the many phases of a bitter breakup. Lead single "Happy Pills" deals with the relationship's immediate aftermath, while tracks "Miriam" and "4 Broken Hearts" deal with infidelity.

"When you have someone like Norah who has such a unique sound, it's hard not to get excited when a new album comes out," says John Butcher, Target's VP of entertainment. Target will help promote the album via limited TV spots, a significant in-store presence and a social-media campaign. "We want to make sure we get the word out to our guests when we have extra content so that her fans will find Target," Butcher says.

Note: The above link also allows you to listen to one of the bonus tracks, "I Don't Wanna Hear Another Sound".

Thanks, Patrick, I just finished listening to it. It's not the easiest album to have a strong opinion about after one listen, so I won't try. I will say that this is a post-breakup album, and the overall downbeat mood reminds me a bit of Beck's Sea Change. Me, I'd like to see her go in the jazzier direction hinted at on her early albums, but YMMV.

Since we're always ragging on album covers here, I should mention that I really like this one.

I read this morning that this CD cover is a tribute to the movie poster for Russ Myers' "Mudhoney":

Not sure why they used 2 CD's for the Target version when those 3 songs
would've easily fit onto the original CD.

Is the 2-LP version the same as the standard CD??
