52 WEEK #41 - Things are setting up for the finale now.
BATMAN #663 - If I wanted to read a "regular" prose book, I wouldn't pick up Batman comics. If the rest of the arc is like that I'll be skipping it.
SUPERMAN BATMAN VS ALIENS PREDATORS #2 (OF 2) - Nice art, simplistic story.
Y THE LAST MAN #54 (MR) - 10 to go. Nothing much happened in this one, really.
AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL #5 - Great stuff as always, reads just like classic Marvel in the 60s.

These should be waiting for me at the shop today(according to Diamond):

Amazing Spider-girl #5 - I'm enjoying this book, and it's nice to know that it's definitely not a CW crossover.

Astonishing X-Men #20 - This is another fun book, and they're keeping to their schedule(bi-monthly, iirc).

Blade #6 - Some guy named Guggenheim wrote it and some guy named Chaykin drew it, so far I like it.

Darkman vs Army of Darkness #3 - Some guy named Stern wrote this one, it might be good.

GLC #9 - This book could soon have the same number of issues as the main GL title, and it started later.

Red Sonja: 35th Anniversary Cover Showcase Book - This will wait until next week, they didn't have any on the shelf and $6 is a big pricetag for a cover reprint book.

Star Wars: Legacy #8 - A guilty pleasure book of mine, along with the Knights of the Old Republic and the current mini series they're covering alot of time with these books.

Tales of the Unexpected #5 - I'm really enjoying the Spectre story, the Doctor 13 story isn't bad either. I'll have to wait until next week on this, the store was sold out.

Ultimate X-men #79 - Maybe I'll stay with the book until 100, we'll see.

JSA 3: fun action packed issue..Johns really writes a great hawkman who can kick ass..great action sequences and some reveals..new and old heroes return and the villain revealed (makes sense)..fun stuff...9/10

Y the last man 54: another brilliant issue that focuses on the background characters and the world of Y..we get numerous levels of narrative here as BKV discusses entertainment, comics, etc in the world of Y and we get a glimpse of a comic dealing with the world's last woman...read it and you'll see what I mean..excellent as usual..10/10

Exiles 91: some fun concepts (Sue Richards supreme Hydra) and cool action sequences by Pelletier but im still not hooked..aside from psylocke i dont really like anyone on this team..6/10

Nextwave 12: fun stuff and crazy ideas..loved the reveal of the big baddie..plus baby modok..crazy kinetic action from Ellis and Immonen..too abd its over for now...9/10

Thunderbolts 111: brutal action packed issue...reminds me of the old suicide squad..team members out of control, drug use, brutality..compelling stuff..Ellis actually makes Jack Flagg cool (well almost)..9/10

Punisher Presents Barracuda: Ennis brings back my favorite villain for a mini arc..fans of Punisher max should not miss this..brutal and funny..Barracuda is one twisted MOFO..you like him but would never want to meet him..a conniving ultra dangerous lunatic...10/10

That hack?

Actually, It's good to see that this issue is finally going on sale. (We finished it back in October!)

If anyone wants to take a gander at a preview, you can click here:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=9654

(Of course, I kinda doubt that it's going on sale today anywhere in the Northeast. The way the snow has been piling up around here, we'll be lucky if comics make it to the stands by the end of the week.)

Just three books this week, so I'll roll them over to next week:

52
BATMAN
JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA (tough to wait for this one)

Honestly I'd give Batman a skip, Ron. It's a picture book, not a comic, something I don't care for at all. Each page features text and a couple of painted images. Unless you're a big fan of either that format or Grant Morrison of course. I'm neither (Morrison is hit or miss with me). If I want to read a "regular" book I'll pick one up, that's not what I'm looking for with comics.

I dropped Batman. If I wanted to read prose, I wouldn't be looking for it in a comic book.

Tiny week:

Astonishing X-men 20- the exchamges between 'Armor' and Wolverine were priceless.
JSA 3- a villian revealed and more surprises

I almost picked a beautiful looking collection of Krazy Kat and Ignatz comic strips. I may get it next week.

NEXTWAVE AGENTS OF HATE #12

STAR WARS LEGACY #8 – So-so. This book is on the bubble for me. Nice (fill in?) art this issue. Probably deserves a re-reading.

BATMAN #663 – Thud. Bye bye.

JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #3 – I miss the previous JSA book. The tone of the new series is decidedly different and seemingly slower in pace (even though lots of things are happening). I really don’t want to drop this book. I love the characters and love the history. I like some of the storyline hints that have been dropped. Unfortunately though, something has changed. Geoff Johns is not the writer I thought he was. All this Kingdom Come stuff as continuity or whatever is leaving a stench in my nose. I don’t like the idea. Some influence is okay, but I feel like GJ is mining KC for story ideas. Do we really need to see Nazi bad guys? Gawd, that’s cliché. Worse, I think GJ has become a bit of a sadist. Too many arms getting ripped off, eyes being poked out, etc. etc. and now a mother and young girl sliced apart on panel. Just wrong IMO. Am I the only one feeling this way?

Y THE LAST MAN #54 (MR) – I love this series, but this issue was just ‘ight and nothing too special (relative to the rest of the series). Some interesting insights into Ladies World, but really not that deep. The theatre group and now Hollywood/comic group issues are probably my least favourite of the run. That said, it was still an okay read.

AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL #5 – A good ole fashioned comic book. Fun. Frenz's art makes me happy.

ASTONISHING X-MEN #20 – I really like this book. Snappy writing and some really great art. Curious to see how this plays out.

NEXTWAVE AGENTS OF HATE #12 -- …and that’s a wrap! This series was a blast. I’m looking forward to any future minis. Super duper artwork by Immonen and zany, odd writing by Ellis. It was just a weird little book that made me laugh. I started out “hating” it… but that was all a misunderstanding. This "final" chapter was hilarious. I really wanted to see Moonboy though. ;-)

New Excalibur: The return of Claremont to this title and the first issue of artist Scot Eaton. Best issue so far. Nex used to be the weakest of the recent Claremont books (Uncanny, The End, Nex). Thats not the case anymore: that issue was great. I particularly liked the pages about Nocturne that i found very interesting and moving. Scot Eaton is the penciller that this book needed. So with his wonderful art and Claremont back at the top of his game (as it seems), there's no reason anymore that Nex could not became the best of the X-books.
Strong issue.

Exiles: the second Claremont/Pelletier issue is on the level of their first one: very good. I really like their run so far.

from previous weeks:

Nightwing: Another very good issue by Marv Wolfman. Welcome to penciler Jamal Iggle (and inker by Keith Champagne). Very good art. I preffer it to the already good one by Dan Jurgens that we had on the first Wolfman arc.

Jsa Classified starring Hawkman
Hawkgirl

Huntress Daughter of the Darknight tradepaperback: a classic

No, you're not. I was disturbed by all the wholesale destruction, and at a family picnic, no less. But that feeling was lessened once we learned some of the kids survived.

I don't know where did this trend started, but I wonder why there must be so much death and destruction to tell stories anymore? Especially on-screen. Writers can't find more compelling reasons to create drama in the lives of our heroes than to kill off loved ones, or hundreds of people? It just serves to darken the hero and the entire landscape.

It bugged me when Claremont systematically killed off the entire Grey family over the years. What's the point, really?

JSA #3 -- Bored now.
Jeff Smith's Captain Marvel (a week later because of all the good reviews).

I kind of liked the Captain Marvel, but not so much. I'll probably bail.
