Product Description
2012 release from the Brooklyn duo consisting of Derek E. Miller (songwriter, guitarist, producer) and Alexis Krauss (vocals). Sleigh Bells' unique sound is likely the result of Miller and Krauss's contrasting musical backgrounds; Miller was formerly the guitarist for the post-hardcore band Poison The Well and Krauss was a member of the teen pop group RubyBlue as a teenager.

Sleigh Bells Issue New Track, 'Born To Lose': Listen
by Jason Lipshutz, N.Y. | December 15, 2011 5:15 EST

Sleigh Bells, the Brooklyn noise-pop duo that broke out in 2010 with debut album "Treats," is getting ready for a busy 2012 that will see the release of their sophomore disc, "Reign of Terror." The crackling first track issued from the album, "Born To Lose," made its debut on Thursday (Dec. 15) on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show.

The track features Sleigh Bells' signature mix of heavy riffs, stuttering beats and Alexis Krauss singing in a lilting, childlike manner. "Born To Lose" sounds pretty standard for the Bells except for the final minute, in which Derek Miller's distorted guitar breakdown makes for a sad, subtle finale.

Earlier this month, Sleigh Bells released a teaser video previewing "Reign of Terror," which is due out in February 2012. The clip showed Krauss staring into a mirror and remembering all the fun times the band had while out on their "Treats" tour.

Speaking of which, Sleigh Bells will open the year with a 8-date run in Miller's native Florida beginning Feb. 3. The dynamic bill also features producer/DJ Diplo and Brooklyn black metal group Liturgy.

Here are Sleigh Bells' announced 2012 tour dates:

Feb. 3: Gainesvile, Fla. (Florida Theater)
Feb. 4: Tampa, Fla. (The Ritz)
Feb. 6: Pensacola, Fla. (Vinyl Music Hall)
Feb. 7: Tallahassee, Fla. (The Moon)
Feb. 9: Jacksonville, Fla. (Freebird Live)
Feb. 10: Orlanda, Fla. (Firestone)
Feb. 11: Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Revolution)
Feb. 14: Miami, Fla. (Grand Central)

Sleigh Bells first album was an unexpected pleasure for me. A definite grower album that kept finding its way back into my cd player. This said, I hope they add something new to the mix this time round. Even if the vocals were more up-front, that would be a good enough change for my ears.

As I wrote on another forum: So Sleigh Bells appeared on SNL last night/this morning. To be honest with you, I thought they were WAY worse than a certain someone else that was ripped to shreds for her performance! You can barely understand a single word their lead singer is singing, it sounds like the guys are playing a different song, and she seems to be dancing to a song other than the one being played...

What am I missing here?

I also saw that performance and I agree, didn't see or hear anything that would make me buy this album. But what a stack of Marshall amps those guys have on stage (you don't see that anymore).

I, too, saw them on SNL, though just the first song, and didn't care for them. They were interviewed, though, on Weekend Edition Sunday this morning, and I actually liked the snippet of music they played from the album. I'll have to listen to more before I decide whether to get this or to pass.

Well, I liked the first song on here a lot, "True Shred Guitar". It's too bad nothing followed that I cared much for. They should have stuck with the formula they had on Treats or else reinvented themselves with something different- maybe a noise funk sound with some strings? When they try to go for a loud, indie pop sound- it comes off dull to my ears. Better luck next time.
