I'm back to reading the X-Men Claremont/Lee omnibus volume 2.

In an issue there's a news report about environmental protestors wanting to declare the Savage Land off limits to mining etc.

Doesn't this change everything for a regular person? Why go to a museum when the real flesh and blood dinosaurs still exist? Would they have lost interest, like the real life space program?

I always assumed it was kept fairly secret, and not something the average civilian would have heard of.

What do you think works best? How could it change the world?

I would say suggest that the average citizen knows as much about it as they do Liechtenstein. Some know it exists, and have even been there. But most confust it with something else entirely like an artist or the the case of the Savage Land, perhaps Savage Garden. So they have no intention of learning more about it.

Also, Southwest doesn't fly there yet so that is a pretty big limitation for the general public to know anything at all.

DC addressed this in the 70's with a Superman story that had a villain of the month who was angered at Superman for killing the U.S. space program. His hypothesis was that we had lost interest in space travel because the existence of a space traveling Superman made the program unimportant in the eyes of the public.

It's probably declared "off-limits" by the various nations of the world.

Sounds like its time for Busiek and Ross need to do a sequel to Marvels.

I think it should be secret.

And the way I would write comics, it would be "discovered" just about every time somebody in a story goes there. The stories in comics aren't as exciting when there's this big load of continuity that everybody's expected to know. Like, "Oh yeah, there's this thing called the Savage Land, and it has dinosaurs, and most of the Marvel heroes have been there."

Each time to reuse it, treat it as new. If it's a character's return visit, spell that out in a flashback.

After the character has been there 9 times, pretend it's 2 times.

I've never understood concepts like the Savage Land or Skartaris. If these places are inside Earth, where do they get sunlight?

Yes, I know I'm not very smart.

From The Mole Man's solar cannon.

I don't think Savage Land is inside the planet, is it? It's just inexplicable tropical (in Antarctica), which is much more plausible.

The Savage Land is public knowledge in the modern Marvel Universe. In the last Ka-Zar story, starvation in The Savage Land and "humanitarian" efforts by Roxxon Oil was in heavy news rotation.

As many times as Ka-Zar and Shanna have visited civilization, one would think that they would have stocked up on some clothes.

Personally, I think the Savage Land should be a well known tourist destination in the MU.

With theme park rides and electric fences to keep them safe from the dinosaurs.

And a couple of quirky, yet endearing kids, in charge of security.

You do know that Roy Thomas has already submitted this idea to Marvel, don't you? I didn't actually hear him do it. I'm just acting the role of office parrot.

I didn't. But I wouldn't surprise me. I heard Thomas just rips off the pages from Michael Crichton novels and hands them as script submissions.

Long I've had this theory that it is possible to have a conversation with you answering solely with gifs.

He could do it with just Franco gifs.

I've often toyed with the idea of making gifs of my face making the expression I want and using them like emoticons.

It's standard genre fiction practice to have these places which don't really exist, isn't it? Marvel has tons of 'em - Genosha, Wakanda, Latveria, Atlantis, Lemuria, wherever it is the Eternals live, Attilan, you name it.

DC probably has many more. Gorilla City is the only one I can think of offhand, though.
