Humble Pie

Image

Product Description
For fans of bluesy, hard-charging boogie rock, the legendary band Humble Pie is an icon. Current artists such as the Black Crowes invoke its name and that of its leader Steve Marriott with nothing less than reverence. That Humble Pie was co-founded by Peter Frampton, enjoying a notable renaissance of late, provides even greater impetus for these new reissues of the bands classic albums In 1969, Marriott, who had left Small Faces, and Frampton, formerly of the Herd, joined with ex-Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley and drummer Jerry Shirley. Humble Pie's first single, Natural Born Woman (aka Natural Born Boogie ) hit the U.K. Top 10 and led to its debut album, As Safe As Yesterday Is. Humble Pie live, however, was explosive, loud and raucous. Frampton left after the tour, replaced by Dave "Clem" Clempson, A year later, Humble Pie disbanded. Marriott and Shirley briefly reformed the group in the '80s but accidents and ill health plagued Marriott and the band. Humble Pie was a transitional album and a harbinger of the band's new, heavier direction. The material was darker than their previous two efforts, with striking contrasts in volume and style Peter Frampton's gentle Earth and Water Song is buttressed between two of the heaviest tracks on the record, the band composed One Eyed Trouser Snake Rumba, and a cover of Willie Dixon's I'm Ready. Drummer Jerry Shirley contributed a rare lead vocal on his song Only a Roach, a country-tinged rocker. This was their first release under the auspices of new American manager Dee Anthony who d, pushed for a louder, tighter sound both live and in the studio and for their new label, A&M Records. This reissue comes with new artwork and sleeve notes by Malcolm Dome who has interviewed members of the band to get the complete story, this along with newly re-mastered sound makes the Humble Pie renaissance start here.

3. One Eyed Trouser Snake Rumba
4. Earth And Water Song

The album title Eat It means "Dig it", Each side of the original double album was different: Side 1 features Steve Marriott penned rock and roll; Side 2 has classic R&B covers; Side 3 is a collection of acoustic Steve Marriott songs; finally Side 4 features Humble Pie live in concert. This album showcases the dynamic diversity and talent of Steve Marriott's gritty bluesy vocals with some funky soul mixed in throughout along with straight ahead blistering rockers. The band is right on and they deliver an extremely energetic powerhouse combination on this double album that overall ranks with their best This reissue - one of the first times this album has been released on CD outside of Japan - comes with new artwork and sleeve notes by Malcolm Dome who has interviewed members of the band to get the complete story, this along with newly remastered sound makes the Humble Pie renaissance start here.

Marriott and Shirley briefly reformed the group in the '80s but accidents and ill health plagued Marriott and the band. Twelve songs appear here, six of them covers, Ann Peebles song I Can't Stand the Rain once referred to by John Lennon as the perfect single; Anna (Go to Him) originally written and performed by Arthur Alexander and Oh La-De- Da by The Staple Singers. Incidentally, the word Thunderbox is a seventeenth century slang word for the toilet which gives an example of Humble Pie's sense of humour. The cover shows a keyhole through which a woman can be seen sitting on a toilet. This reissue - one of the first times this album has been released on CD outside of Japan - comes with new artwork and sleeve notes by Malcolm Dome who has interviewed members of the band to get the complete story, this along with newly re-mastered sound makes the Humble Pie renaissance start here.

2. Groovin With Jesus
3. I Can't Stand The Rain
4. Anna (Go To Him)
5. No Way
6. Rally With Ali
7. Don't Worry, Be Happy
8. Ninety Nine Pounds
9. Every Single Day
10. No Money Down
11. Drift Away
12. Oh La-De-Da

Can anyone tell me if these will be worthy? I know of the expensive Japanese remasters, but this seems good to me, but I'm not sure. I assume they'll be doing the whole catalogue.
Lemon did a great job on Uriah Heep's "Equator" remaster-it was first class and licesned from Sony-but in the past (this is a while ago) they did some shoddy work.

Agree IP on both fronts. Interesting titles BUT I have had purchased very disappointing product from Lemon. I used to tell my indie that the label chose the right name. :ohyes:

But your report of "Equator" which I need to get (and will know based on your post) and the fact they say they remastered these announced titles I fell more confident.

Will see (and hear) hopefully.

Links added to the first post. (Based on current prices, it looks like it's still a better deal to order directly from Amazon UK.)

Just saw this now.......

On 11/15/11, Universal Japan re-released Eat It and Thunderbox........continuing a series of releases of Humble Pie, Rock On, Fillmore, & Smokin that apparently use the 2007 SHM remasters.

I just ordered that version of Eat It.

Thread is here for anyone who wants to read it......starting with my June 20th post.
