Been enjoying the "Video Games" single & videos she released lately, so I'm looking forward to the full length.

Product Description
Sometimes stars emerge. Sometimes stars are thrust upon us. And sometimes stars simply slip into the atmosphere as if propelled by something otherworldly. It is into this last category that the astonishing presence, voice, look and feel of Lana Del Rey falls. Musical stardom is not an option with Ms Del Rey. It is her vocation. She calls herself the `gangsta Nancy Sinatra' and defines her genre as `Hollywood pop/ sadcore', a dramatic new loop for pop music.

Lana Del Rey grew up Lizzy Grant in Lake Placid on the outer edges of New York State. Herein some of her unique music flavour was incubated. `It has an epic, nostalgic feel. It's in the middle of a national park that is six hours from New York City. But it's also a struggle because it's a town built on tourism that no-one goes to anymore.'

At 18, she fulfilled her lifelong ambition of decamping to New York City. `Since I was little I knew I would end up there,' she says, `Every day is a pleasure there. Every single day I walk out of the door is a good day. I like everything about it. New York totally rewards me for my love of it.'

Lana Del Rey's direct influences were visual as well as musical; David Lynch, soundtracks for `50s black and white movies, the whirring sound of the Ferris at Coney Island, fame itself. She lived in a New Jersey trailer park and decked her homestead in flags, streamers and seasonally inappropriate Christmas lights. `All the things I love,' she notes. This was Lana's world now and it needed to sparkle.

She intends to work with hip-hop heavyweights, with the future-perfect foot soldiers at the coal face of exciting pop. `I know it is going to take a lot of work to get there. But that's OK when you have people around you who believe in you. The record is going to be gorgeous. That much we know. Whether or not it will work? That much we don't know.'

As for the inevitable stardom that will come her way? That is something Lana Del Rey does not fear. `I know a lot of different people. When they are drunk, in the dark of the night they all want the same thing. They all want to be famous. It's innately human to want other people to bear witness to your life. It's important for people to be watched. They don't want to be alone. I don't want to be alone.'

Lots of discussion about Lana on various sites. I will reserve judgement until I hear the whole album, BUT what the hell is "`gangsta Nancy Sinatra'" -- I mean, what does that even MEAN?

There's a good interview with Lana in this month's Q magazine. I am looking forward to hearing the album.

I heard an advance of this, and I think it's terrific! I don't buy into all the backlash. I mean, lots of artists have changed their names and their styles of music: before she was Lady Gaga, she was Stefani Germanotta; Myra Ellen Amos became Y Kant Tori Read before she settled on Tori Amos! I really like the mix of styles on the album. If you've liked the advance singles, you'll definitely enjoy this. And honestly, she is more refreshing than another R&B clone or shrieking diva!

I didn't understand the harsh criticism of her SNL appearance. I thought she was just kind of okay, but certainly nothing to get angry about.

I saw that appearance and she looked like a chick singing in her bedroom. One of the most bizzare SNL acts ever. Who is she? How'd she get a prime time appearance on a major show without even the benefit of a hit album or single? Must be the daughter of some rich guy.

I've posted this elsewhere, but when I saw Tanita Tikaram after her first album was released, she was terrible. She kept her eyes closed the whole time, had no stage presence, and looked absolutely terrified to be there. Some people are just not natural born performers. I mean, even Linda Ronstadt, who I absolutely ADORE, would stand stock still, clutching the microphone stand with her eyes closed for YEARS. So I think the criticism is very unfair, though she probably was not ready for a national performance. I honestly didn't think she was as awful as everyone is saying.

She actually reminds me of the hot school teacher from the christmas special "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" Miss Jessica.

Well guess what? I googled her image and found this:

I like her single, but the melody (and some of the lyrics) sound an awful lot like the Radiohead song "Videotape."

Is the deluxe version of this album a Target exclusive? I see they have a version with 2 extra songs for 7.99 while it appears Amazon is selling an import version of thwe same thing for over 20$

As far as I can tell it is a Target exclusive. I just picked it up but haven't unwrapped my copy yet.

According to listings, the Target version includes only two ("Without You" and "Lolita") of the three (those plus "Lucky Ones") tracks found on the UK Deluxe Edition.

Thanks for the info, I believe you are right.. there seems to be 15 tracks on itunes. I am so very sick and tired of these multiple versions but it is too early in the morning for me to go off!
