UB40--"Red Red Wine" reached #34 in the US in 1984, and #1 four years later. (For what it's worth, Neil Diamond's original version hit #63 back in 1968).

True, although that wasn't actually Aerosmith-just Tyler and Perry and the song is credited as a RUN-DMC tune. But that was the highest charting version and was one of the most genre-busting songs ever.

It showed up on at least one Aerosmith comp, although, yeah, I've never heard exactly what Whitford, Kramer and Hamilton thought about the whole thing.

I don't think "Cocaine" on Clapton's '77 album "Slow Hand" charted at all, but his live version on "Just One Night" hit #30.

They tried this one for a third time (re-recorded) last year!

not sure about the charting but didn't Real Life put Send Me An Angel on at least two different albums?
seems like Modern English may have done the same with I Melt With You.

Not sure if this applies here, but Plant & Page recorded the song "Please Read The Letter" for their Walking To Clarksdale album in 1998, but didn't release it as a single. Ten years later, Robert Plant & Alison Kraus included their version on Raising Sand and released it as a single. It wasn't a huge hit, but it did win the Grammy for Record Of The Year.

Bohemian Rhapsody #9 (1976) #2 (1992) after Wayne's World.

This was in the U.S.

In the native UK, it went: #1 (1976) #1 (1991) following Mercury's death. Unaffected by the movie.

Yes-both versions of these were hits (the latter were both re-recordings), although neither really improved things dramatically.

Real Life-Send Me An Angel #29 (1983), "Send Me An Angel '89" #26 (1989)

Modern English-I Melt With You #78 (1983), "I Melt With You" (new version) #76 (1990)

Melt may have done better if Valley Girl had a soundtrack release.
