To me it seems that there are not too many TV shows still to come out on DVD

With the recent release of Alfred Hitchcock Presents Season 5, Dennis the Menance Season 4 and I'm Dicken's He's Fenster Season 1 vol. 1 - plus the scheduled releases of Car 54 Season 2 and Night Gallery Season 3 plus Julie Newmar's Living Doll - these are the only releases I am waiting on -

Phil Silver'/Sgt Bilko Seasons 2 - 4
Alfred Hitchcock Presents Seasons 6 & 7
The Untouchables Season 4
Mork & Mindy Season 4
I'm Dicken's, He's Fenster Season 1 vol. 2
Nichols - James Garner with Margot Kidder (only lasted one season)

It would be great to get an official set of Amos N Andy or the Batman Show (Adam West) from the 60's but I do not see that happening.

I don't foresee "The Simpsons" getting caught up for at least another decade or so--about five years ago they were managing to get a season set released about every six months, but are back to about one season per year--the 14th season was released last month, about 15 months after season 13 was released in 2010. (The show is currently in its 23rd season.)

As I noted in the thread for the comnplete series set of "Bob", only the first season of "Newhart" has been released, and the last two seasons of "The Bob Newhart Show" are still MIA.

A complete series box of "The Brady Bunch Vareity Hour" would be interesting, as well as "The Brady Brides" and "The Bradys."

Original versions of "WKRP In Cincinnati" episodes are apparently doomed to bootleg exile, and although more complete season boxes of "Saturday Night Live" may appear eventually, I doubt they will pick up with season 6.

Finally, I'd like to see the rest of "St. Elsewhere" (seasons 2-6) released; I must admit, I have yet to pick up the Season 1 set, as I recall that first season as being pretty much of a standard hospital drama compared to the weirdness that would follow, but if more seasons were released, I'd start watching from the beginning. However, having not seen most of those episodes in a quarter-century or so, part of me suspects that the show may now seem horribly dated--it's my experience that shows that were "ahead of their time" when originally aired do not age well.

Get a Life. Rhino issued a few episodes on DVD, but they're OOP and fairly expensive. A complete series set is overdue.

The Wonder Years. I've given up hope of this ever being released, probably due to the music licensing.

The Muppet Show. Got the first 3 seasons, but it's been years since the last box set was released.

Over the past few years, I've knocked several shows off my list, with the release of Max Headroom, Square Pegs, Daria, and Rocko's Modern Life.

I always hoped that "An American Family", the PBS documentary on the Loud Family would get a release, but music licensing problems will probably doom it.

The "Decline of Western Civilization" trilogy by Penelope Spheeris. She's been working on it for years, but maybe she's having trouble getting performance clearance.

I'd love to see "WKRP", but only if they could get the music issue resolved, which is highly unlikely. I'll stick with my "unofficial" versions of the series. I'd also love to see "Happy Days" finished, but you've got the same music issues there as with "WKRP". I really wish there was a work-around legally to get the original music versions released.

"The Beverly Hillbillies," seasons 4 through 9. The last release was "The Official Third Season" back in 2009. Can't say I'd go for all of the remaining ones, but I desperately want to have an "Official Fourth Season" released, because it would contain my all-time favorite episodes: the two-part "Possum Day" and "The Possum Day Parade," in which Granny imagines herself to be running against Mrs. Drysdale for the title of "Possum Queen."

I've knocked off several on my list as well: "The Larry Sanders Show" and "The Patty Duke Show" were both titles for which I'd given up all hope.

Joe Bash with Peter Boyle from the mid-80s:

Wasn't around long but was a great show. Never on vhs or dvd apparently.

Also Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors featuring the Flying Karamazov Brothers from the mid-80s. Floored me. Snagged it recently courtesy of the vast internet, but incredible it was never released.

Anyone know why the Batman series with Adam West has never been (or seems unlikely to be) released?

Wiki wrote:
Conflicting reports of the reasons behind the non-release of the series point to a number of different factors, which may or may not indeed play a part. These include:

Disagreement between DC Comics, owners of the Batman character, after DC's sister/parent company Warner Bros. took over DC in 1969. Warner Bros. could also be involved, as well as 20th Century Fox, owners of the program itself.[11]

Commentators have suggested that DC Comics itself is not involved, and that Warner and Fox are reluctant to work with each other. This was denied by a Warner spokesperson in 2005 during their semi-regular "Home Theater Forum" chat, where it was stated that the issues were between Fox and DC alone, with Warner playing no part in negotiations.[12]

Greenway/ABC/Fox rights issues. The Batman series was conceived as an equal partnership between William Dozier's Greenway Productions and Fox in 1964, before Fox entered into a separate agreement with ABC to produce the series in 1965. With three companies involved almost from the outset, there is some speculation that these rights are tangled even before the DC Comics character ownership rights are to be considered. Moreover:

In 2006, Deborah Dozier Potter, "the successor-in-interest to Greenway Productions" sued Fox for allegedly withholding monies under the Fox/ABC agreement.[13][14] Dozier Potter further claimed that this came to her attention when, in March 2005, "she considered releasing the series on DVD," implying that (from her perspective at least) Greenway/Dozier Potter has some say in the matter of potentional DVD release of the series. The case was resolved/dismissed in November 2007. In February 2005, John Stacks had approached Deborah Dozier Potter to market the series on DVD. There were many offers and lots of interest in the release of the series, as can be read in Joel Eisner's The Official Batbook Revised Bat Edition 2008.[15]

Other complications/rights issues:
Christopher D. Heer, writing at the "1966 Batman Message Board", clarified a quote by moderator Lee Kirkham, noting that there will likely be the need for complicated deals regarding cameos, since "...at least some of the cameos were done as uncredited, unpaid walk-ons – which means that Fox does NOT have home video clearances for them. Either those scenes would have to be cut or an agreement reached with the actors."[16]

Kirkham's initial quote also noted that, alongside music clearance issues, there could also be problems over some of the costumes, and the original Batmobile:
"It may surprise you, but then there are also rights issues concerning the design of the unique Batmobile design used in the show, and possibly a separate issue regarding some of the costumes as well!"[17]

It's staggering that the entire run of The Muppet Show on DVD wasn't available in time for the movie. Must have been music licensing issues, or Disney just doesn't care.

On the "Muppet Show" DVD's currently available, songs that encountered licensing issues have been completely excised from the set.

More like an unwillingness to pay what is in reality an exorbitant licensing fee. Simply, the RIAA grossly overvalues their product and prices it out of the realm of reality.

There was an exclusive giant DVD box of The Muppet Show from Time Life I believe it was. My wife found it for $15 at a yard sale sealed. We sold it for $300 on Amazon.com. I'd have loved to keep it but we needed the money.I cannot remember how many DVDs, but I think there were close to 15 of them. I do not know if every episode was on there, but from what I recall there were still some episodes not included. I also do not know if musical guests were included but I think they were.
My memory is a little shaky on what this thing was but it was large.

Stuff I'd buy if they'd just release it already:

Seasons 3-7 of Hill Street Blues

Seasons 5-12 of NYPD Blue

Seasons 6 & up of Saturday Night Live

All three seasons of Batman

I'm wondering....since it's part of the thread....how many TV shows (companies) so far have gone the extra mile to get all the orginal music / music guests.

The only one's I know of (in my collection).........
1. The Saturday Night Live full season sets
2. Freaks & Geeks
2.5 Square Pegs - they were able to keep the theme song, music with guest appearances (Devo, The Waitesses, John Densmore), but not other music just used in episodes.

I believe that "The Sopranos" retained all of the original music for each episode on DVD (which is probably why each of those season sets originally cost something like $80 each).

The wife got me season 2 of SNL for Christmas. She got it from Target for like $12.

The musical guests are outstanding. James Taylor especially.

The skits are kinda ehh, but things pick up when Bill Murray shows up.

Sucks that they ground to a halt after S5. I guess he really doesn't want to do the non-Lorne years.

We would love to see Maximum Bob finally get a video release.

Aired in the summer of '98, the show starred Beau Bridges as a Florida judge, and was based on Elmore Leonard's book of the same name. Even though there were only a half-dozen episodes broadcast, it was like a funny version of Twin Peaks and was ultimately too good to last on TV
