I'm going to Las Vegas in late February for three days of golf and, hopefully, live music. I've never been and, as far as I can tell, nightlife seems to revolve around night clubs. I'm going with a client, and would like to take him someplace for live music, preferably blues. Does anyone have any suggestions?

dano will know for sure.

but in my yearly travels to vegas, it's either a concert or a club scene, i've never seen a blues club or a jazz club, at not on the strip.

if you want to take in a really fun show go to anthony cools at paris. reasonably priced and a hell of a lot of fun.

There's live music everywhere you turn. Forget those trendy nightclubs - I've never even set foot in one. Not that they'd let a 51 year-old in!

Almost every hotel has at least one free or inexpensive bar or area where live music can be enjoyed. There are also an endless supply of places like the House of Blues and the Hard Rock (2 of 'em, in fact) with a variety of top acts (not free, of course). Not to mention 3 arenas the general size of Madison Square Garden right on the strip (and another over at UNLV) + a couple of Jones Beach style sheds.

Then there's the awesome Fremont Street Experience which usually has two or three different bands on three different stages at the same time. Those shows are free, but outdoors (under the worlds largest projection screen - about 4 blocks long) and standing - only. You can always go into the many old Vegas hotels that line Fremont Street to grab a seat if you're tired though.

Also places like the Cannery (I think there are two of those) and the countless off-the-strip hotels like the SouthPoint, M-Resort, Red Rock etc each have free or very inexpensive bars with good live music.

Well you're asking the wrong guy, as I happen to live on a golf course (Rio Secco) where Tiger Woods and everyone else has played, but I don't play any golf that doesn't involve a small windmill or the mouth of a clown.

Wynn also has a top notch course where Justin Timberlake holds his charity tournament every year and there are a few others as well. One promise - your tee time won't be rained out!

Huh. Forgive me for asking, but doesn't living on a golf course carry a premium? Why would you choose to live there if you don't golf?

Because we love the neighborhood and the views.

Also, I'm a jackass.

I saw a version of Paul Revere & The Raiders there in around 1979.

It was quite odd. Mark Lindsay was in the audience, some kid was doing his vocal parts. + a large portion of the show was BAD dirty jokes.

Paul Revere & The Raiders are playing here (I think at the SouthPoint) 2 nights this week. Not sure who's in that band these days.

I'm hoping to see the Beatles' Love show. And play golf at the Bali Hai on the strip. I also hope to golf out in the desert for the first time.

I'm a big golfer so its good to know DanO lives on a golf course. :D
One day I will make a trip out for a round or two while visiting. And of course have a burger at the Paris Hotel at Le Burger Brassiere.

I stayed at the Flamingo a few years ago but alas Donny and Marie were on vacation.
I would have seen them.

Steel Panther advertise weekly gigs in Vegas at the House of Blues (Fridays 11:30 pm) and Green Valley Ranch (Saturdays at 10:00 pm). If that interests you, check their website to see if they're going to be in town while you're there.

Smiff, hope you do see the Love show. My wife & I saw it a couple years ago & thought it was awesome. I can't imagine a Beatles fan not getting into it. Just the music mix/production alone & hearing it in that theatre just made me respect the Beatles' output that much more. We hope to return sometime & take our son to the show since he loves the Beatles too.

I also love golf but have never played in Vegas. I did play a couple courses in nearby Mesquite though & they were awesome desert courses. Have fun!

I have never played in the desert, and I can't wait. Too bad DanO doesn't golf.

I'd also love to visit Arizona just for the golf.
