Great art. This still should not be happening, but since it is happening at least it looks like the art will be good.

Well, it people are annoyed by it, they don't have to read it.
I won't be reading it, but that's out of apathy, not any kind of principled stand I'm taking.

I'm going to take a principled stand and read it (maybe, if it looks good).

What is B&E? Are you referring to DC buying up and then pulping entire runs of Watchmen so the book remains in print and they don't have to revert the rights back to Alan Moore?

I also note that while the movies have honoured Alan Moore's request to take his name off of Watchmen, DC hasn't and although he no longer accepts any royalties, Alan Moore's name is still on the book.

Breaking and entering. No, Eddy. I wasn't being literal. I meant that Watchmen is a finished work. Nothing they do could ever taint it. Precuels, sequels, movies, videogames, DC can exploit it all they want and it doesn't make a difference.

I will be reading this most likely at some point. I might even enjoy it. That will not undermine my thought that it should not happen, but I felt the same way about the Wolverine: Origin mini-series and found myself enjoying that (possibly the biggest comic-book related surprise of my life). I still maintain they should have just left his origins be, but I did not let that sully my experience reading it.

By the way, I never said this would destroy the original nor did I think it. Not that anyone said I did, but while I am clarifying I might as well clarify that as well.

The Large Hadron Collider hasn't sucked us into a black hole, so maybe the warnings about Watchmen prequels were equally exaggerated.
Someone let me know if this thing is worth a read. I'll hold off on stating my principles until I find out if it's any good.

DC has no right to profit from work that they own as agreed to by Alan Moore. Or something like that.

I might even like it better than the original, depending on how involved Darwyn Cooke actually is. Everything he touches is gold.

Night Owl wrote: DC has no right to profit from work that they own as agreed to by Alan Moore. Or something like that. The agreement was that the rights would go back to Moore (and perhaps Gibbons, cannot quite remember) once it goes out of print. The problem is the rise of the TPB not long after ensuring that will never happen in Moore's lifetime if it ever even happens at all. DC obviously has every legal right to do this, but should they? I say no. Even if it is good, even if it is better than the original (which it may be), it would be nice if they showed respect to their former creators. They are only doing it now because Moore got real pissed with them a few years back and has burned all bridges with them so now DC has nothing to lose. That whole situation comes back to DC not showing Moore respect. Someone there said he was excited about the V movie (which he was totally ambivalent towards) and refused to take it back. If the guy would have just apologized Moore would have likely let it go and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen might still be being published by DC. At least it is not a sequel. I would be just a little more adamant if that were the case. That said if this does well (which it will) a sequel will probably be inevitable. Again:

Funny how this is going to come out before the Moore Marvelman remake.

Though in this case the one they are showing respect to is the artist of Watchmen, because as weird as it might sound, Watchmen wasn't 100% Alan Moore. And why would they even care about Alan Moore? He's not a saint. I've come to the conclusion that it was mathematically impossible for DC to not piss off Alan Moore.

This is all kinds of true. Some people are destined to be pissed off.
