Great to see the new BOC remasters finally headed for release from Sony/Legacy on Feb. 20.
1977's "Spectres" will have 4 bonus tracks.
1978's "Some Enchanted Evening" is a CD/DVD combo release-not sure about bonus tracks.

This is awesome! Now, about the rest of the catalogue....

I hope Spectres will include the live version of "Godzilla" from the promo 12" single.

Someone on the Hoffman board suggests that they skipped over On Your Feet...Or On Your Knees because the master tapes cannot be located.

yes, the 5.1 mix of "Agents Of Fortune" is pretty good. Nice seperation of the cowbell on Don't Fear The Reaper.

One possible caution here. BOC released a now out of print DVD on Image called Live 1976. It was recorded in Maryland in 1976. It isn't very good. According to AMG, the DVD for Some Enchanted Evening is also from Maryland 1976, although it has somewhat of a different track listing. I hope it's better (both musically & video quality) then the out of print Image release. It may be a different show; AMG does not state either the venue or exact date, & the Image DVD doesn't state the date other then 1976.

Jeff,
I believe it may be the same show. I hope to physically look at these BOC remasters at Best Buy tomorrow but I'm not counting on it. Otherwise, I'll order from CD Universe.
Can't wait to hear these, but damn, I'd love to hear the rest of the Columbia albums done!

I believe this DVD is actually from 1978, although it is also at the Cap Center like Live 1976.

I've see reviews of it that indicate it's a much better show.

That's a relief if so. There were several promo videos from this album for "R U Ready To Rock", "Godzilla" and "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" that used to air on MTV and still air on VH1 Classic. My guess is that this is the same show as those clips from 1978. The quality is OK, not great but definitely better than that crap from 1976.
I feel relieved as I believe that is what this DVD contains!

Let me tell you that statement should include ALL 5 members. I saw them last Feb. in AC and they killed that night. Richie Castellano did a 7 minute bass solo in Godzilla that rivalled Les Claypool-it was amazing and not boring at all. So creative and mind-blowing musicianship as well. Jules Radino did an awesome drum solo too. These guys are incredible! They made the show for me.
Then there's Alan Lanier, Eric Bloom and of course, Buck. All were great and Eric's voice is still good.
Alan can tickle the ivories reasonably well but nothing to write home about. Still, he does so much for the band's sound.
Buck was awesome, especially on the long version of Shooting Shark. I hate that guitar he uses and the sound, but when he plays like he does it doesn't matter!
Anyway, BOC are a great, great band to see live still-so if you can, do so and don't hesitate!

Don't get me wrong - they're one of my favorite live acts ever (that picture upthread is from the show this past Thursday night).

I hadn't seen them in a while, so I haven't seen enough of Richie and Jules to make up my mind about them. Buck and Eric always have very competent help on the road. Bobby was probably my least favorite drummer I've seen them tour with, and it's not that he's not a good drummer, I just think their music needs a more subtle approach to the drumming. Jon Micelli and Ron Riddle were both very good.

Didn't get a chance to see Richie on bass since Allen's apparently been sick, so he was playing keys and second guitar. Danny Miranda was back on bass - he's definitely a monster! (there's a reason Roger Taylor and Brian May picked him for the Queen tour)

Eric is a great front man, but he's starting to show signs of his age - nearly 40 years of playing is bound to eventually take its toll.

As for Buck - I can see how some might not like his tone, but he's been playing the Steinbergers for almost 20 years now. From a touring standpoint, they're probably great since that graphite neck is like a rock and practically would never need adjustments. The EMG pickups are also fairly consistent. I think they use rented equipment some places, so that probably makes a big difference. Woody's a great soundman, but I'm sure he prefers to keep the variables to a minimum.

I got a copy of the expanded Some Enchanted Evening at 'Rama today. Not a lot of info about the DVD, but it does say "recorded 1978 direct to 3/4 inch video at the Capitol Center, Landover, MD." I'll throw it in the DVD player tonight and have a look.

Interesting new essay by Lenny Kaye in the liner notes. There were several links between BOC and Patti Smith--musical and otherwise.

They just played a local casino with Starship (featuring Mickey Thomas) and The Cult still put on a great show. Lanier is missed IMO but "Buck and Bloom still have it"
