Co-creator of Captain America. At least he got to see the movie before he died, and liked it.

Joe Simon, legendary Golden Age co-creator of such characters as Captain America, the Sandman, the Fly and hundreds more, has died at age 98, according to his son’s posting on Facebook.

Together with his partner Jack Kirby, Simon revolutionized the superhero, horror and romance genres — there pretty much wouldn’t be comics as we know them without the work of these two

Robinson was at Comic Con a couple of years ago. I was dumbstruck to see him sitting by himself, while folks lined up to see the current artist on Anime Booby Girl. At least I didn't have to wait in line to tell him hello.

Damn. I sent him an email a few years ago, and he actually replied.

Hell of a guy.

I read this story, and was glad the lady shared it. It fits how he was at other cons I saw him at. I wish I could have gotten a drawing.

I traded Joe Simon a kiss on the cheek with my bright red lipstick for this sketch. His son wanted $150 for any art, but Joe would only accept a "beauty mark" in payment. I had planned on asking for just a signature as it was late in the day, and he had been at his table for hours; but once he saw that there was a Jack Kirby sketch in the book, he wouldn't take no for an answer. Hands shaking, he brought Captain America to life with jokes, a smile, and quite a bit of flirting. :) He will be missed.
