It's great that Sly Stone might go on a world tour, but I've given up hope of ever seeing:

Ronnie Spector (she cancelled her last rare European tour)
Aretha Franklin (fear of flying)
Fats Domino (too old)
Les Paul (too old)
Ronald Isley (65, but not well)

Add Sly Stone to the list.

The number of oldies acts still touring is dwindling fast. Hardly any from the '50s, and not that many from the '60s either. I wonder if there are any doo-wop groups from the '50s still performing?

Speaking of oldies.... of course this was almost 20 years ago, but what a show, Flo & Eddie, The Association, Spanky and Gary Pucket. All sounded great. I was just a kid in my late teens but really "found" a lot of the cool 60's singer/songwriters from this tour. Also gave me a backdoor into Zappa. I also got lucky enough to catch one of Ray Charles's mid-80's tours. WOW!

What a dream package you saw there, Rich!

My town is a smaller town and never gets big acts. I'd say the 3 biggest acts that have appeared here are:

Elvis in '56 along with Hank Snow at the middle school. I was in their final class in '85 before it closed down.

KC & The Sunshine Band in '76.....I missed that one too(I wouldn't say they are legends, but still....)

Finally Ray Charles did a show here in the early '90s. It was in a high school gym and tickets were at least $200 apiece and sold out immediately, so I missed out. His set was 20 minutes, I swear. Despite all that, I would love to be able to say I saw Ray Charles.

I've seen many big shows in bigger towns, but no one I would consider a LEGEND as of yet.

I've got my own "shoulda coulda woulda" story...

Frank Sinatra at Radio City Music Hall, 1994.

I was new to the world of Sinatra fandom back then, and I saw that Don Rickles was on the bill. I wouldn't have minded seeing "Mr. Warmth" as well, but for some strange reason I thought the two would be on stage at the same time, and I didn't want that... so I didn't go.

Mine was Harrison at Tokyo Dome. I thought, if I can't see Lennon, then why bother. Also, because Clapton was on stage as well, I thought I might be confused about the sound if they were both playing guitar.

And Bee Gees' last concert at Wembley Stadium. I thought they'd be around for much longer and I didn't like that Celine Dion was the support act.

I take any and all opportunities to see any acts I even remotely enjoy that tour in Australia. I've seen Eric Clapton twice (not this time, though, he's here this month, but I'm unable to go!), The Stones, Mick Jagger's solo tour (for Primitive Cool), Billy Joel, Sting, Bob Dylan, The Ramones, Joe Satriani, Yngwie J.Malmsteen, Alan Holdsworth, Prince, Kiss, Marrianne Faithful, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits.....and that's all I can remember offhand! The only one I thought was a let-down was Dylan, but I still didn't regret going.
