Sad news, but it may be for the best for her infant.

RIP

She'd been in pretty bad emotional shape since her son died late last year. Speculation: I wouldn't be surprised if this was a suicide.

You know, everybody knew Anna Nicole Smith was going to outlive that nonegenarian billionaire she married in 1991, but I never would would have guessed it would only be for less than 12 years!

My deepest condolances to her family and her infant daughter, who will have no memory of her when she grows up...

It's sad for her family, and they have my condolences.

That said, I don't get why the 24 hour news channels feel like this story deserves hours of coverage (MSNBC has preempted Tucker Carlson and Chris Matthews so far, so I'm cranky). It's, at best, a five minute news story.

Her daughter can watch reruns of her mom's TV series. What a legacy...

This thread makes me remember something that I have wondered about for a while - since partaking on, largely, American boards...when you post, say, 'you will be missed' on these RIP threads, who is it for? Who, in other words, do you imagine to be the reader? I mean I get why we would share, in conversation, what we think would be the influence - good or bad - of a individual...but why the 'you are in my thoughts' appendage?

Swear to God, a genuine inquiry...not a 'you guys are so odd' observation...I could hazard a guess but don't know the 'real' answer

I seriously doubt I will miss Anna Nicole, but I do still hope she rests in peace. When Will Eisner passed away, I meant I would miss him, because I followed his efforts in the comics industry.

I remember when her son died last year and the channels kept going on and on and on...

After 2 or 3 days I'd come into the office and say "This just in, Anna Nicole Smith's son is still dead". Gallows humor at it's worst I suppose.

Had it been any other 20 year old dead in the Bahamas.... zero impact on the news.

Way too fixated on non-celebrity celebrities these days.

I hope she left it all to the baby, and appointed a responsible guardian.

RIP Anna.

In my case, it is the decedent, on the chance that there is an afterlife and such things can be perceived.

For some reason, I'm wondering what Howard Stern's reaction will be. His show made a whole lot of hay ridiculing and demeaning her over the years. Will he turn it into a joke, or call a moritorium (sorry) on the usual bashing?

Of course, I'm not the kind of guy who pays for his radio entertainment, so I won't get to find out with my own ears.

What happens to her baby, I wonder?

A judge ruled earlier today that a paternity test would be given for the child, so presumably the father will have custody (all of this was before Smith died).

I thought it was obvious. The "you" is referring to the late Anna Nicole Smith. Even Americans who do not believe in an aftermath will usually address the deceased in an obituary or an appreciation piece in the second person.

I wasn't a fan of Anna Nicole Smith, but this strikes me as very sad and shocking. That poor baby girl is going to grow up without her mother. That's the real tragedy.
